Quayside, rockrood parade, millbrook. In that preference order. If you don't mind living nearer the student estates , you can get slightly cheaper in Mulberry/Ashbury park or yeats heights.

Search this forum, there's been a few threads on this already, but it depends on what you're looking for, there's plenty of rentals in the villages outside of Sligo too that might suit your fancy if you don't feel like living in town and have transport.

Can you get a short let these days? Say 6 months? Could you contact your new employers and see if they can advise, or might be new work colleagues who have a room to rent short let? Depends on age as well I guess. I'm presuming you are single no kids? Most of the auctioneer/estate agents could give you some advice and take into consideration your circumstances and will probably avoid renting you somewhere that is unsuitable to you.

Do you drive? It increases options. Mind you places like Strandhill have good bus connections nowadays. If it was me I wouldn't go too far from where you are working. But then again new work colleagues might do car share.

I'd avoid getting a long lease and get a short let and find your feet, check out the place and undoubtably you will make new friends and connections. Sligo is a great town and county with lots to do for those that go looking for it.

Well done on the job and welcome to Sligo.

Hi ya, it really depends on your budget and if you have a car, if you have a car then your options are much greater as there are a lot of houses / apartments outside of town that are a lot cheaper, best of luck!!

Flats right in the middle of town though. Plenty of house shares in nice areas of Maugherboy, Pearse Road, and Tonnaphuble to name a few whilst you get a feel for the place.

Hii all, I'm considering a move to Sligo for work, it would be for a minimum of 5 years, I'm in my mid - twenties and single.. am I mad ? I know the town well enough but not to live in, is it an easy place to get to know people ?

If you're a drinker than yes, the Sligo pub scene is inviting and social in most places.
Otherwise I guess it depends on your hobbies, Sligo offers a lot of outdoor activities and clubs if you're happy to get involved!

On the rental part I'd say avoid the apartments around the town centre unless you like listening to drunks singing and shouting till 2:30 - 3 am every night.

As a previous poster has said, it's very easy to get to know people if you like a drink.

Most of the people I know in this town would be from meeting them in pubs.

I find weekdays better than weekends better for getting to know people.

There's a much better class of drinker around on weekdays

Thanks all I don't think I'll be hitting the pubs midweek but would be interested in clubs/ evening classes etc during the week and socialising a bit more at the weekend.

Any particular types of clubs/groups that you would be interested in? Might be able to point you in the right direction.

My drinking days in Sligo are long over but I'm surprised at this comment. What pubs in Sligo would you say that is the case in? It's not my experience for sure.

It's quieter but in my experience you get a good few undesireables and there's less crowd to hide them in. Still, if you go to decent pubs it's usually grand any night and if it's not, move to the next one. If a landlord sees decent punters leaving because of a loud or troublesome customer, it's a great incentive to improve the door policy.

Every pub really. There's a lot more messy drunks around on Saturday nights.

Weekday drinkers are quieter and more friendly in my experience.

If I went into Harry's on a Monday evening I might disagree with you...
