Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Barking collars - confused

I would like to try barking collars for our two small dogs.

I am confused by the different types on offer - sprays, electronic and vibration.

There is a huge range of prices - from about a tenner - to over €50.

We want something that is effective and will not cause distress.

We have moved home and when we leave the house the dogs are barking and howling causing annoyance to our new neighbours.

If anybody has been down this road I would like to hear from them.

The above is what you need to focus on: why are your dogs barking?
Once you understand the motivation for their behaviour, you can take steps to rememdy that. Problem barking is very often caused by anxiety, and it's the anxiety that needs to be addressed, not the symptom of it (i.e. the barking).
Anti-bark collars can work, but there is a lot of evidence to suggest that (a) they increase anxiety for the dog (who is probably already quite anxious), and (b) work at first, then stop working after a few weeks as the dogs learn how to by-pass the "correction" they get.
Using collars puts a plaster on the wound, but does not address the reason for why the problem is occurring.
So, why are your dogs barking?
If you have any ideas as to why, hopefully we'll be able to help you take steps to remedy the causes, as opposed to punishing the symptoms.
