Hello. Can anyone guide me on what kind of TV to buy for a PS4? For example is there any advantage in buying a Sony set over say Samsung, LG or Panasonic?
I also notice chats about refresh rates and all that but tbh it's all Greek to me.
Budget of about €500 for the set and size between 32" and 42". l'd also like some smart features and an LED screen over LCD which is pretty old tech now I'm led to understand.

    Any input appreciated.

LED is how the screen is lit not the type of screen, it still is a LCD screen just lit by LED's. You can get back-lit or edge-lit tv's. I have a Samsung and LG tv and the LG has a good picture and similar spec but the Samsung seems to have more dept in terms of picture quality. Both screens have 100Hz processing rate and HD channels look great.
You'll need to spend near €600 for a 40" Samsung with the spec you are looking for in a bricks and mortar store.

Here is the current absolute best bang for buck tv out there at the moment at a fantastic price ...and these prices include shipping,

Me and my two brothers have one, Two have been bought from CPI . We never had an issue with them + their Irish . We all game on them ,and there awsome . I use these settings for calibration + I reduce brightness to 12 and colour up to 55 , the picture is fantastic with great sound for a flat tv,

Go and read reviews about these tv's and you will se that they are about the best allrounder tv's for the price. The 48" was €1100 at one stage.

Thank you both for taking the time. So 100hz is good yes? What happens if I consider a 40hz model? Would that ruin the gaming experience?

Another detail I forgot to mention is that I really really like the deep blacks on amoled smartphone screens. While I know that a true OLED TV would have a sky high price, which of the brands mentioned already, or not, would have the best blacks without those nasty dark greys that are common on older LCD displays ?

Getting a tv for gaming you should avoid bells and whistles
Just look for a tv with the lowest input lag

Yeah I had samsung's for the last few years and just switched to a Sony KDL32W653 and its stunning, fantastic for gaming and don't see myself changing brands, also I feel worth the extra price compared to similar sized Samsung's anyway. A newer model is Sony KDL32W705 32" €440 from Argos or as DublinHitMan mentioned the Sony KDL42W706 42" is €560 from Argos, both would be a great gaming choice with super low input lag.

I got a Sony KDL42W729 and it really is the business. I'm glad to see it appear on that link with 8ms input lag.

Can anyone recommend a monitor for PS4? It will be a desk monitor to use for gaming and to work from home. Benq and Asus seem to be the most popular. I guess judging from above im looking for the lowest input lag.

Im looking at this Benq RL2455HM 24"
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-RL2455HM--inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00CFFFGUM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1431680430&sr=8-2&keywords=benq

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations with monitors for PS4?

Don't get 100Hz as the PS4 will only go to 60Hz

Well you should take a look at this regarding refresh rates for tv's, the same generally applies to monitors: http://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/1i9aaa/need_a_new_ps4_tv_heres_your_handy_buyers_guide/

The one you linked looks good, 1080p, HDMI, Speakers, low response time...
