    Hi
I need some advice please. Has anyone ever done this?

I have about 32sq m of tiled floor in a kitchen which has easyscreed underfloor heating underneath. I would like to lift the tiles (large 35cm x 70cm tiles) and replace with a poured concrete polished floor.

    1. is this feasible?
    2. will it damage the screed (installed 6 years ago) and will the screed need replacing?
    3. will it damage the pipes?
    4. Will this be very costly?

I am predicting this probably won't be easy, will be very messy. :( Any advice gratefully received.

    thank you

Good luck getting the tiles up off the screed. It'll be a nightmare of a job.

If you plan on pouring a polished concrete floor. What thickness are you planning. It will affect your threshold heights at all your doors.

Thanks hexosan - I appreciate your quick response.

I know it will be a hard job but not impossible right? :)

Regarding the concrete - does it have to be a specific minimum thickness?

I don't have any doors to worry about in the kitchen - all open plan. But thank you for the forewarning. I will bear it in mind for skirting etc.

I can't see this being successful, never mind easy.

Bear in mind your tiles+adhesive are what, 12mm ?? I think you'll need 75mm minimum screed - maybe more, as, especially if heated, you will have cracking.

Have you room to raise the 'floor' by such an increment, or greater ?? (doors, doorheads, countertops heights, window board/cill heights etc etc )

And then you have the fact you've just effectively doubled the slab thickness your UFH is trying to heat.............
