Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone got one of these or even a long haul trucker, cross check or pacer? I think I've convinced myself to get the straggler but considering how much it costs I wanted to throw it out there and see if there is anything I haven't considered?

My reasons for buying it are that I want a bike has a steel frame that is going to last forever, has sti shifters, disc brakes and will take a rack and proper mudguards. My main uses are commuting 25km round trip every day part of which includes bringing baby to creche with attached hamax child seat. Also doing the occasional weekend long distance cycle and perhaps some touring in the future.

I've looked around at bikes like the Genesis Croix De Fer, Specialized Awol and Kona Rove but they don't seem as highly regarded as the Surly bikes?

Lennymc should be on Shortly to tell you why he wants to have his Crosscheck's babies.

FWIW I think Surly bikes are things of beauty.

    I LOVE SURLYS!!
LOL. i have a cross check. Raced it as single speed cx, geared cx, used it as a training bike for a while, and currently have it with a rack for sometimes carrying a pannier. The Straggler has similar geometry to the cross check, and the discs, but apart from that is pretty similar. It's heavy, but rides so well. It's not a flat out fast bike, but for an unburstable bike to do 25km round trip, and the sheer versatility of it, then I would recommend one. Touring would be no problem, lots of luggage mounts, and a guy i know carries his child on one with a chils carrier thingy. I considered a straggler myself earlier this year but bought a track bike.
I built mine up, got the frame in cyclebike.

I would also love a pugsley single speed fat bike. Just because....
