Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Replacement for Ultegra 6600 shifter

Looks like my RHS shifter has bought it, ratchet inside isn't catching every time so I need a replacement. (Cause: head of gear cable came off inside the mechanism and screwed with everything rattling around in there).

Should I just look for an identical shifter - Ultegra 6600 10 speed RHS - or a completely new pair (seems hard to find singles), or consider changing to another system/manufacturer? Any suggestions?

I'd look for an identical replacement. I'd avoid 6700 because it's a bit crap compared to the iteration it replaced and the hood shape is quite different. If 6600 proves really hard to find or just presents really bad value then I'd consider getting a new 10sp Tiagra replacement.

Is 2015 Tiagra on a par with 2006 Ultegra?

I've been on Claris 8 speed on the replacement bike and while I am incredibly grateful that I was able to get a loaner to see out the trip, I really missed the nice shifting particularly on climbs.

I've never actually used the new Tiagra though it does get good reviews. My preference would be to get 6600, then maybe 5600, then new Tiagra but that last suggestion is largely based on the fact that it's the only one of those available new now.

The latest version of Tiagra isnt exactly new, the newest is 4600 but its been around since 2011/12.

4700 is due out in June and will have hidden shifter cables.

I have 4600 on my winter bike and it works very well, Ive never had a minutes bother with it. I've never ridden 6600 bike but I think 4600 and 6600 have identical pull ratios and lever designs and the only difference is in the materials used so they should be a very good replacement for your shifters.
