    Hi,

I'm bringing the family to a holiday park who charge a fortune for WiFi access and to make things worse the login you are given can only be used by two devices but only one concurrently. Given I will have my phone and laptop and there will be several other phones and tablets needing internet access I'm looking for a workaround and am thinking of buying this WiFi repeater http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-IR325N-Wireless-N-Repeater-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00INZ7YKS/ref=pd_sim_computers_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=0MJCHD5ARE02EN818Q43 which I'm hoping will allow me to connect the repeater to the parks WiFi network and then we can all connect to the repeater and access the internet via the "single" connection we have a licence for.

I hope the above makes sense.

Will what I'm proposing work? My logic is that the parks WiFi network will only see one device using the licence key I'll have paid for but because that device is re broadcasting the WiFi signal it is acquiring we should all be able have access to the internet.

    Good plan / bad plan?

They will be blocking at layer 2, only allowing 2 Mac addresses to connect. A repeater will not work as it works at layer 2, ie it extends their physical network and forwards all layer 2 traffic (Data link layer). You need something that routes (layer 3, Network layer). You need to NAT (route) to their subnet from another subnet without this limit. You'll not find anything off the shelf as you'll require 2 radios, but it may be possible with a decent dual band router and a decent third party firmware like DD-WRT.

It may be even more complicated than that if they are using a radius server using a http login page to register users

A laptop with 2x Wifi adapters and PFsense booted could do you as a gateway, but it wont be user friendly to set up.

Ah Jaysus lads, ye're bursting my head

I guess I'm just going to have to cut the kids internet access for a few weeks. Won't do them any harm :D

    I have got this http://www.howtogeek.com/182931/htg-reviews-the-hootoo-tripmate-a-travel-battery-and-wi-fi-wonder/

Is supposed to work for this situation, currently use it to share my phones Internet with the kids tablets on long car journeys which works. Will be trying it out on holiday this summer.

Spot on, you've obviously done the 3 week mobile home on a camp site in France holiday before. Pack up the car with the wife and kids, load the roof box, throw a few bikes on the back and off we go. National bloddy Lampoons it is for 3 weeks but we love it.

I've already explained that this will not work as it has only one radio. It will work only to connect wired devices using the wireless radio to connect and sharing through Ethernet. You will also find it next to impossible to use if they are using a radius server with http authentication which requires a browser session to login and authenticate
