What are you on about? I don't see anyone here disagreeing with you about free education. I'm certainly not. Just on uniforms, which are not essential educationally, and which some consider ti be a negative factor.

I don't see any problem with complaining here; but doing it instead of letting the people concerned know you have a problem with what they are doing is just waffle.

I do think the situation is odd, and if I were a parent I would be asking questions. It's one thing to get opinions and advice here, but even in recent posts he has made it clear he has no intention of approaching the school. It's all very well to talk about this kind of discussion opening people's eyes and informing people, but it's not going to solve his problem.

How can the school know that people aren't happy with the situation if no one complains?

Sorry, but you seem to constantly wish to undermine anything I have to say here, I have never expressed that I will not speak to the school about this??????

Attack the post not the poster!

I have approached the school, the PA, and the BOM, no one is listening, seemingly it's the supplier, and that's just not an explanation that holds any water. If I deal with any supplier who is unreasonable, well, I inform them politely that my business will be moved elsewhere, and it's that simple.

Anyhow, last night I went and spent over €180 buying uniforms, as I had no choice, and next week the bill is another €200 for books.

I spoke with lots of parents, no one is happy, some have had to borrow money on short notice and were very stressed.

But in good old commercial fashion, beside the counter where you collect the uniforms, there was another private company with a stand twice the size of the uniform collection point (where everyone was squeezed in) with school bags for sale.

I have never suggested uniform to be negative, I have only queried here as to why they are required 3 months before needed, and forced upon us on a single evening. And asked other to comment to as to is this normal?

You have continually called me a moaner, and suggested that all I do is come here to complain, you have no idea what I do and how I conduct myself. I would appreciate if you only attacked the post and not the poster.

The PA should be holding the AGM in Sept or Oct and should be inviting parents to get involved. Time to get involved!

You first said you "may" approach the school, then you said there was no point in approaching the school. Now you say you have approached the school. How was anyone supposed to know that, on the basis of what you've previously said.

Sometimes it's impossible to criticise (not attack) a post without criticising the poster. From the beginning, you have said nothing positive. You brought up this important and relevant issue of paying in advance for school uniforms, but expanded it out into a general complaint about paying for swimming and school fundraising in general. I pointed out to you that the schools have to look for this money because their capitation doesn't cover it, but you have ignored this fact. You seem to have allowed your negativity towards the school's unavoidable fundraising and charging for extra services to colour the action you're prepared to take in this case.

NS now you've clarified that you have approached the school and have not been listened to. Good. You claim that you have no choice but to fork out the money - you have a choice. You, and other parents, can simply refuse to pay the money until nearer the time. What can the school do?

As I said, when a uniform situation arose in my daughter's secondary school regarding crested clothes, I simply refused to buy them and went to Dunnes instead. The school weren't too pleased, but other parents followed suit and the following year the school advised that the PE gear could be generic.

All I've seen from you is complaints: I'm suggested you take positive action... What was the point in introducing this issue if you aren't interested in other points of view, other than to complain?

I didn't say that you said uniforms were negative. I was addressing a different poster, who thinks the taxpayer should pay for uniforms. As someone who thinks that uniforms have more negative than positive effects, I was pointing out that as a taxpayer I would not support this. Nothing at all to do with you.

I think we are going around in circles. Closing thread.
