I haven't spoken to anyone in the lawsoc but it's what I immediately thought?

It seems groups 1-6 are in first thing on Tuesday with groups 7-11 in at 9.45. With the rest of the groups off Tuesday and in Wednesday.

Anybody know when the law society facilities are like e.g. Library, cafe etc.

Are we supposed to bring a small suitcase for the material distribution. I was gonna bring one just wondering if anyone else is?

I will just bring a back pack. I know years ago people would bring small suitcases because of the materials but considering the iPad will have most of of the materials, I'm assuming the amount of materials handed out has been reduced.

You'll be getting 4 or 5 OUP manuals, that's about it, and of course your ipad. I managed easily with a Tesco jute shopping bag ;-) (Not very stylish I agree but it did the buiz)

Had printed out my receipt for the ipad upgrade and just realised I've left it at home and don't have access to a printer before tomorrow.

Reckon showing the receipt on my phone would be enough?

I would stay that it will be fine as long as you have id with you to match. Even if it doesn't I'd say you can print it off in there tomorrow.

This might be worth following-up for cheap accommodation in Dublin. JC

Thought it would be worth a shot - starting traineeship soon, is anyone looking for a housemate?

Can I ask who people are using as character references?

I'm stumped about who to ask. Don't really want to ask former employer. Can ask a college lecturer but I don't really know who else.

    Any suggestions would be welcome!

It doesn't have to be anyone in relation to work, it can be a friend or colleague - I luckily already work for a legal office so got it from one of my barristers and a course lecturer

I asked a friend of mine, she is a guard and I have known her for 20 years and the second one was another friend who is a solicitor and I have known her for 15 years.

I need some advice. I am due to go to Blackhall in September. My application is in and my indenture papers have been sent out. Now my training solicitor is stalling saying he can't pay me and other excuses that we had already agreed on. I don't have the option of applying to firms in Dublin and I think I am too late for that anyway. I have no idea what to do now!!

Oh god, that is miserable. I know I have seen a lot of people mention that they are not getting paid while at PPC1, until the in-office training begins so for your TS to have stringed you along seems very unfair to say the least. I think even if you were to get another TS at this stage, they probably also wouldnt start paying until after PPC1....would it be impossible for you to get through the 7 months with no income, have you tried the susi grant?

I looked at the trainee salary form that came with the application pack we are entitled to be paid if we have worked in our training offices and I have been here 8 years which makes it more frustrating.

Yeah, I saw that too. Is he refusing to sign the training contract or just seeing if you can be worn down to give him a bargain!?! Surely, as a solicitor, he is well aware of his obligations under the Act. I don't know if you could opt to contract out of the wages rule under the Act, even if you wanted to. He would be legally obliged to pay you as per the Act. But I understand that you have to 'go softly' lest the whole thing gets pulled from under you.

It's a little bit sh"£$y to do that to you in the middle of your application, excuse my French!

Give the law society a call/email and ask them to send it out. They usually send it out same day 😊

Delighted. Got my deed out today....hopefully get it signed off next week 😊 happy Friday!!

Just a question about the character references needed for PPC1 if anyone can help please.

Once I figure out who to ask does it need to be in a specific format such as a signed letter or is say a copy of an email ok to include?

Don't want to ask for one and then for it to be in the wrong format. Tried asking the Law Society but came.off the phone without an answer!

    Thanks a mil.

The application pack specifies original letters, not sure if emails would be acceptable

Any girls starting PPC1 in September and looking for accommodation I have just got a room for September in house on Aughrim Street on North Circular Road and they are looking for one other girl also starting PPC1 in September. Its a big double room in a lovely house. You would have your own room. It's owner occupied but she lives downstairs and we would have our own sitting room and space upstairs. Owner seems really nice and its about a 10-15 minute walk from the law society.

I can send it on to you by PM as I can't post the link on this. If you're interested just message the advertiser through daft and let him know your going to the law society in September.

Any questions feel free to PM me

Hey guys I had a question about the application for consent to enter into indenture-- My training firm sent me a letter to say that I need to send all results letters for the Fe1s to the law society. I can only find the one that says that I have passed the fe1s once and for all.
It seems daft to order a duplicate copy of the results of the sitting that I can't find from the law society just to send it back to the law society - would the one letter be ok?

    Thanks!!

anybody any advice on finding accommodation? I've looked on daft but the prices are crazy, am funding the PPC1 course myself and paying my accommodation so 7 months with no income is going to be costly.

I was just wondering out of curiosity what the timetable is usually like for ppc1? Is it around 9-5 everyday? Many thanks!

If you google master timetable for ppc1 it will show you the one from 2015. It seems quite hectic!!

This is an almost embarrassingly cosmetic question........buttt......

What colours are the Ipads that are given out? Are they all silver or is it pot luck? I only ask in the interests of colour co-ordination :) I am looking to order a keyboard case online and I want it to match.

Hopefully someone has been here already and knows

Maybe there is an option for specifying colour when ordering through the Law School?

Well, mine is 2016 Mercedes-Benz Black, so that it looks OK in my second car ;-) I've seen black, white, red and silver tbh. I would guess, and it's only a guess, that if you are getting the standard one you might be able to choose if you collect it promptly, because it'll just be a dude standing at a table issuing them, and you sign for yours.
You'll get cases on www.7dayshop.com for a fraction of Apple prices, but be careful of non-Apple charging leads. There's apparently a chip in the connection fitting in the genuine Apple cables that tells the iPad it's ok, some cheap spurious cables don't have it, some do.

    Hey guys,

I see the master timetable for PPC 2016 has been put up on the law society website. Does anyone know if we find out what stream we're in before we start, so we can get a bit more of a sense of our timetable in advance? Thanks!
