Seems like Fonte has been the main organizer in that defence over the past few years. It was thought to be Lovren but that was quickly dispelled when their defence improved after he left.

If he wants to leave for a major pay rise fair enough, but you'd think Southampton would fight tooth and nail to keep him.

Koeman has said hes a club man and has no interest in letting him leave.

In Barnsley circles apparently. But doesn't mean much really, players can go two ways when they start playing higher level. For every Stones there's a Bostock.

Madrid & Ramos Trolling Level : Expert

In fairness Madrid wouldn't give Ramos a new deal so he has essentially used United to get himself a new deal and forced Perez hand. It's not really that surprising that he stayed at Madrid considering from the start he mentioned that he wanted a pay rise and would only stay if he received one. There would be no reason for Ramos to leave Madrid unless he wanted a new challenge or someone was offering him more money.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Kovacic to Madrid for €35m is likely too....could go either way that. Big fee for a player who hasn't yet fully showcased his talents at Inter but could easily end up being Illaramendi 2.0 at Real or a real asset.

Ronaldo and Ramos used ManUtd to get better deals at Madrid. Not sure why you say Madrid are trolling when they are forced to pay more than they expected.

Otamendi off to city today if you are to belive ballague, if kompany gets back to his best (which he has looked the past 2 games, early days i know) and sign otamendi they could form an amazing parnership.

bit weird though that they spend €40 million on a centre back who took his time to adjust to the Premier League and then just as he appears to be hitting his stride he gets loaned out and replaced by another player who has to go through the same process.

Bit of a head scratcher for me !

Its meant to be Otamendi in and Mangala out on loan.

Wouldn't have thought City would be loaning Mangala, he's had a strong start to the season.

Heard Valencia still owe money to city for Negredo so are getting a better deal.I doubt Mangala would be loaned out.

That seems to be the jist of it. Otamendi is in Manchester having completed a medical according to most reliable journalists. It's all about the difference from Negredo money and additional monies City will pay Valencia.

So City beats Utd for Otamendi by the looks of it. £31m, which is hefty for a "one season wonder".

Worth noting the line from United weeks ago was we weren't interested in him; that all the links were coming from the other end of things, trying to talk up his price, while United weren't all that bothered....

Its Van Gaal's decision. But Otamendi is alot better than any CB Man Utd have.

Ramos is better than Otamendi and it looks like Utd now have neither.

I expected one of City or Utd to go after Stones too and with City getting Otamendi, I wouldnt be surprised to see Utd go after Stones.

Be something to see Utd and Chelsea go to war over an Everton CB, Sterling may yet not be the most expensive English player in history!

Surprised they haven't bought a centre back and a forward. Don't know much about Otamendi. Remember him vaguely in the 2010 World Cup.

Local journos posted all summer than ManUtd's name is just used to drum up the interest and even compared the situation to Gaitan.

    Nastasic - £12m & Savic
    Mangala - £32m
    Otamendi - £29m
    Demichelis - £4m

... thats a **** load of money they've spent trying to get a partner for Kompany.

Think they're looking for someone better at linking defence with midfield rather than an outright beast of a centre back like Kompany already is.

Porto would report the fee in euros, as opposed to City reporting it in sterling.

Still though, looking at that list (excluding Otamendi for obvious reason), it's insane to think that arguably the most successful one was by far the cheapest! :D

    Source?

Man City announced that they paid Porto £32m. The question was whether City then paid additional money to other partial owners. Tbh I doubt it - that would be up to Porto to deal with - but makes a better story to inflate Citys fees, eg like the Tevez ones.

I'd have no problem believing either story. Ask anyone how much Hazard cost and they'll probably tell you £32 odd million. Nobody mentions the 6 or so million to his agent and presumably a large signing on fee. Tevez's agent was Kia Joorabchian. Who knows how much he got?

    Ouch a £19m loss.

Striker Roberto Soldado has moved from Tottenham to Spanish side Villarreal in a deal worth a reported £7m.
Soldado, 30, cost Spurs a club record £26m when he signed from Valencia in August 2013 but he only managed seven goals in 52 Premier League appearances.

Porto announced to the stock exchange receipt of €30.5m for 56.7% of Mangala's rights. This does not automatically mean that City paid €23M for the 43.3% owned by a third party.

Which is where the larger number comes from.

Florian Thauvin looks set to join Newcastle for around £12m from Marseille with Remy Cabella set to go on loan the other way.

    EDIT: Marseille. Not Lille

After the Manchester City have officially announced the hiring of Mangala, also FC Porto did the same in a statement sent to the CMVM. According to the note of the SAD FC Porto, FC Porto receives 30.5 million euros by 57.67 percent of pass it held in relation to the player. This means that Mangala was valued at 53.8 million euros.

That Porto had sold 33.3 percent of Mangala go to Doyen Sports and had assigned shortly to record when hired to Standard Liege, 10 percent to Robi Plus. So had only 56.67 percent of the pass.

Check out the reports in full:

"The Futebol Clube do Porto - Futebol, SAD, in accordance with Article 248 paragraph 1 of the Securities Code, hereby informs the market that it has reached an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer, on a permanent basis, the sport registration fees, and 56.67% of the economic rights held, professional football player Eliakim Mangala, the amount of € 30,500,000 (thirty million five hundred thousand euros).
