Hi...I was thinking of making an offer on a house which has been empty for more than 2 years. I understand among other things things before reconnection that it will have to be certified. The house was built about 2002 2003 , will the house have to meet the 2008 regulations? Also I understand that this would be treated as a new build even though the cable is connected to the box would it need to be re sited completely I mean would it need to be renewed and ran through the duct again, just trying to find out if it would need dug up and if the house would require a full rewire
    Thanks

    Hi stoporilshoot,

    Thanks for your post.

If a property with an existing connection has been without power for over two years, you would need to get a registered electrical contractor to check and certify the wiring, and submit an application form, ordnance survey map and site map to:

    ESB Networks Services Bureau
    PO Box 29
    Garrycastle
    Athlone
    Co Westmeath

You can find the relevant application form on the ESB Networks website here.

For any other queries re: reconnection (regulations, ducting etc) you would need to contact ESB Networks directly on 1850 372 757.

    We hope this helps.

    Regards,
    David
