The Kerrang Channel

Okay, first off I am officially old. My metal phase was the late 80's up to early 90's ( the last metal album I really loved was Pantera - Far beyond driven in 1994) after that I got bored of metal & got into other things. I still love 80's metallica, Pantera, Sepultura & other thrash metal. But I've been watching the Kerrang channel lately and just have been really disappointed with what I'm hearing. Not because it's too noisey or aggressive, quiet the opposite. It seems to be mainly EMO/metalcore, some of it from at least 10 years ago. Young metal fans, this can't be a reflection of the current state of metal, can it?

Ps. I know the mainstream is the last place you look for real quality music.

Pps. I did like Leviathan by Mastodon (but they are older than me)

If you watch the Kerrang channel and go an hour without seeing a Fall Out Boy video, you win a prize.

Kerrang hasn't been a decent indicator of what's going on in metal for over a decade now.

I gave up on Kerrang years ago, couldn't stand watching the likes of All American Rejects and Avril Lavinge - yes really! Too much skater music aimed at teens.

Scuzz was alright, not sure if thats still going and Kerrang used to show proper metal post 11pm I think but apart from that I just use internet stations.

I remember 14/15 years ago Kerrang used to play mostly nu-metal garbage, it's been a commercially-inclined channel for as long as I can remember. If you're serious into metal, rock, punk, hardcore etc. a tv channel like Kerrang or Scuzz would be one of the last places you'd look.

I remember when you used to have to ring in and request a video, that was almost a useful service for a few months....but I don't think i've honestly seen Kerrang now in about 12 years

    FYP :)

Scuzz is about 100 times better, showing Judas Priest as I speak.

You also get a prize if you watch it for 5 minutes and don't see The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance.

I remember one night, after midnight, a friend of mine texting me frantically to tell me that the new Metallica video was premièring on the station....they must have played it every third video or something, and these were in the days of requests, but it wasn't on the list....we thought we were so special getting the new video for 'St Anger' and seeing it first haha.....about the nearest I think my generation ever got to an MTV moment

I bet the other videos shown in between Metallica were all Good Charlotte and All American Rejects ones.

Friend was over for tea and a chat, so turn on Kerrang mostly for background noise/music.

At one stage, we both stopped and just stared at whatever was on and shrugged, both in the notion "Wow, music is terrible nowadays!"

Not sure if its just a 'the music I loved when younger was better' thing, cause it must be popular with some people.

Kerrang and Scuzz are usually good for the buildup for Download Festival, in fairness.

Music nowadays is not terrible just the stuff shown on Kerrang.

Yes because what gets played on Kerrang is 100% representative of the entire spectrum of music today and not just commercialised rock and metal...
