So that all said will they shift 20,000 tickets? Should do giving how long they've had to sell this game.

Kiss said on Monday that they'd sold 14000.

I know it's good to spread the games around but from a cold hard business perspective, it's not great.

I dunno why but I'm very interested in it, can't wait for it actually. But that's probably because I'd watch anything resembling a rugby match.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the point of this game? Did Schmidt request it as part of his RWC preparation? Game is of interest for Irish fans but that BaaBaas side is pretty underwhelming for neutrals I would have thought. I'd say the best result for Ireland is no injuries. I'd expect a ropey first 40 with Jackson steadying the ship after half time if I'm honest.

It's something to do I suppose

I figured it out. Why Jackson isn't starting. It's the last possible chance it can happen. Joe wants to do what MOC never could, determine who is number one: Madigan vs Gopperth, one last time. Its genius.

To all the people who have spent the last two pages talking about how it's bad business, won't break even, nobody's going etc, do you have anything better to do than essentially speak ill of Munster and their stadium? You don't see me or anyone else talking about the Prawn sandwich brigade or the lack of non-Leinster games that take place there.

    Let me address this:
    1. This came around 4 or so years ago and didn't draw a big crowd.
    2. I didn't expect a big crowd when buying my ticket.
    3. This is not a competitive fixture, more reason for people not to be attracted.
    4. It's not televised. (It's on Sky actually, thanks CatFromHue)
    5. Even if Munster weren't in the final of the league, no big stars would be on the panel.

And to the person who was fuming over the match not being covered on Against The Head, the match is not important and Ireland could be wiped off the field and alarm bells still would not ring as they simply don't care.

That its not a competitive fixture doesn't imply the crowd wont be huge. If Munster were not in the pro12 final you would have seen more first choice Munster players who are fighting for world cup spots in the Irish squad.
People are not speaking ill of Munster or Twomint.

In many ways it is. It is a game for players fighting for world cup spots etc. Its real start of world cup prep right before the short summer break.

I can't understand the ticket prices. Either put these exhibitions on around the country and absorb a loss to ensure a large crowd, or hold them in Dublin. You can't build regional goodwill and turn a profit with an exhibition dead rubber.

IMO this game will have minimal impact on anyone's World Cup chances. It's just an exhibition match.

Aviva Stadium is too big, RDS is too small. Open and shut case boys.

This game may not win a player a spot in squad but could certainly lose a player on fringes a spot if they play horribly.

Aviva too big yes and not simply RDS too small. There is no agreement with Royal Dublin Society for another game in ground and its a chance to move a game outside of Dublin. All Ireland games don't have to or need to be in Dublin

Just a friendly (and I genuinely mean friendly) pointer. The levels of provincialism here are minimal. Things work well here because most of us get on well. Nobody is bad mouthing Munster or Thomond Park. What people are complaining about is the timing of the fixture. A week later and/or a Friday kick-off would have drawn a better crowd.

I wouldn't mind the PM to try it out, but I've a feeling my access to WiFi will be poor. I'm literally gonna be on an Island with no roads, no cars, the works. The hotel has WiFi and happens to have Satelight TV, which includes Setanta Sports... But it's way better than Irish Setanta. It literally just shows rugby or league 24/7. Never stops. I was hoping they might have the rights.

In general I agree. But I reckon a player like Gilroy could make or break his chances. If he has a nightmare, that's his chances gone, whereas a decent display would keep him in the mix.

Could be like the Wolfhounds game this season. No one really helped themselves but the likes of Marmion and Madigan definitely set themselves back.

Yeah, you can probably do very little to advance your case, because the old asterix will come out given the nature of the game...but you can definitely harm your chances if you play poorly. Sort of a no-win for the players.

I would never badmouth Munster, I'm as biased as they come. But the fact is that as a Munster & Ireland fan, I have very very little interest in going to the match.

I've been asked to go but the night that it's on + the price doesn't seem very appealing at all.

I don't think it's Munster's fault, I don't know who actually set the fixture, it just seems very stupid having it on in Thomond when the interest is likely to be much higher in Dublin/Belfast. With the likes of Kelleher & O'Shea playing, along with Jennings' last hurrah & Gopperth at OH; I imagine the RDS would have sold out. I know it's for Munster but the timing is bad.

If any of the likes of Stander, Coughlan, Bleyendaal, Botha, Guinazu, Smith, Mafi had been involved for the BaaBaas (I'm guessing Saili & Stringer are no-nos) and maybe the likes of JOD, ROM, JJ, Casey as younger players in the Ireland squad, then I imagine it would have drawn a lot of interest.

But Munster are playing a more important match. I don't see how that's any sort of slight.

I would have thought this was the perfect game for a small ground with €5 ticket prices, bring-a-kid-for-free type affair.

I find the way the games lately have been divvied up is a bit weird: I mean the Pro 12 final in Belfast between Munster & Glasgow??

The money is important to Thomond Park and the Munster branch, there's no way they'd risk it being at a loss.

The Pro 12 obviously had no idea the final would be between Munster & Glasgow, it could just as easily have been Munster/Ulster. It's just like the Champions Cup final, unfortunate but the nature of pre-determined stadia.

Its a chance to play an Irish game in Limerick. Not many are played there. We shouldn't, if moving Irish games from the Aviva, be playing them in the RDS. Play them outside Dublin. Ravenhill was unavailable for this week.

Maybe not €5 a ticket but all clubs in Limerick, Clare, Tipperary all offered discounted tickets, help to pay for buses to get crowd to game

This is first year pro12 will have a final venue set early in the season. It just happened to be Munster Glasgow in Belfast. I think in time it will be better than top ranked team getting a home final if done right

I undertand that for the ECC, where it's on a bigger stage and involves travelling fans etc. Given the scale of the Pro 12, I honestly reckon they could leave the final venue until after the semi finals. I would find it plain weird if the Super Rugby final venue was pre-ordained: good luck getting people out to Eden Park to watch the Brumbies play the Stormers...

I don't think it's possible to organise it in 1 week.

There is a lot of things that happen in the background that are organised ages in advance. I am pretty sure Belfast City Council are involved next week in some capacity.

I'm not advocating keeping the games in Dublin at all, was only responding to the poster who claimed the RDS is too small so it was "open and shut" for Thomond based purely on capacity, but that's not really the case.

This match was announced before the Pro12 final was fixed for Ravenhill too.

Sometimes I think that some of the fans on this site appearing to be from one province are actually mischevious fans from another province trying to make them look bad.

If a big reason for this fixture is to raise money for TP maybe it would help them to market it locally as just that, rather than an Irish exhibition game with no local players that people are expected to go out and pay money to support.

  • Registered Users Posts: 408 ✭✭PIORUN

they seriously priced them selves out of it with this thing and the fixture schedule didn't help either. Next Thursday would have been a far better idea. sure there was always a chance that at least 1 Irish side would get to the pro 12 final..there always has been.
