    So,before we start-

Chef Dominique Ansel invented and trademarked the "Cronut" -

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cronut

there have been other very similar variations on this - hence my thread title.

Very few places selling as far as i can tell so just wondering what's out there in this space.

I tasted Krust bakeries' version at the weekend, and @ 2.50 a portion i was underwhelmed- interestingly, they call them Cronut's on their website- maybe they should call it the Kronut?

it was dry and "airy" inside, only saved by the splodge of caramel/chocolate (yes i bought 2) on top.

the real Cronut has cream inside- so a totally different experience i'd imagine

Marker Hotel appears to have them too but have yet to try this version.

anyone have the New York original? views welcome also. :)

Haven't really seen any around these parts.

    Look nice though.

Seemingly Centra do a version that they call a Cronado.. I haven't seen/tried them, though.

I've had a cronut from the Marker, it was filled with a rather bland custard (berry I think, it was a while ago) & I didn't really enjoy it. Coffee2Go off Baggot Street in Dublin has a version of cronuts some times. Have yet to try those after initial pasty tasting experience.

I had one in Newbridge visitors centre. It was stale and rubbish. Don't know if they still do them. I had it last year.

I tried the Centra ones before. Extremely sweet and unexpectedly chewy, is what I remember of it. My OH liked them a lot though.

I tried the ones in The Marker, I was not impressed. They also do them in Petite Sashas on Drury Street and Krust on George's Street if you do want to try without going to the expense of the ones at The Marker.

I tried Harrod´s cronut version, the dough-sant, it was absolutely delicious.

    Tried the Krust cronuts recently.

They were fresh and moist and delicious. I don't like custard or anything like that so I didn't mind that there wasn't any inside.

I also had a doughnut from Krust. It was amazing. It had chocolate and white icing on top and although it was a ring doughnut, it had some sort of chocolate icing or ganache or something piped into it. So good.
