Something big must be coming down the line quickly.

I guess the arrest warrants must be coming for Sepp Blatter too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,767 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

I'd imagine he's had forewarning that the Feds are about to knock on his door!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,325 ✭✭✭✭rob316

    Delighted.

There must be some serious evidence against him for him to step down.

    Beer night :D

I said it in the other FIFA thread. "The election is a moot point. He'll be in jail in a week." I stand by that. The amount of sh*t he was involved in means somebody knows something. He's leaving before he's pushed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 562 ✭✭✭Reedsie

Would love to know the full details. I'm sure he was pushed but we may never find out on what agreement.

    Good.

Now get that tournament out of that desert.

I think some more federal indictments are incoming. No way he would have run last Friday and stepped down already, he must have some new info.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,559 ✭✭✭ronjo

    Platini to make his move?

I did think it was strange that France supported him last week...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,710 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Legging it off to a non extradition jurisdiction for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,723 ✭✭✭MightyMandarin

So the elections won't be held until sometime between Dec 2015-March 2016; something tells me he knew he was going to resign before last Friday, but wanted to stay in charge for another 6 months or so, probably to clear some of his tracks before he takes off.

I doubt it, Platini isn't popular outside of Europe.

Whoever wins will be whoever promises most to the small nations.

    Hopefully more to follow!

Didnt they get dirt on his right hand man about bribes for the world cup in Africa, they must have something on him too surely?

    At last he is gone

    Step forward John Delaney :D

His pal in Russia might have a spare bed for him to bunk on.

Have to believe he got wind of something coming and is stepping down now before it hits.

    Awesome news.

There is a stat that if a minute's silence was to be held for every worker who died so Qatar could host the world cup, the match would be delayed by 20 hours.
Apart from the rampant corruption, the Qatari winning bid is covered in blood due to the slave like conditions that are being used by Qatar.
Sepp Blatter should have resigned for that alone. Totally unacceptable.

Yanks must be coming for him.

He said in his resignation speech that he had a mandate but not everybody in the world of football supported him body's and clubs wonder does that mean uefa or other body's threatened him they would go it alone if he stayed

He was going to go to the Womens World Cup this weekend in Canada. Maybe too close to US?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,740 ✭✭✭kingtiger

The sponsors must of said enough is enough

Maybe if enough people protest against the sponsors we may see an end to the WC in Qatar

As the only thing that changes FIFA is money

Brillaint work by the FBI. We owe the USA a pint, that or a free pass to invade someone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,559 ✭✭✭ronjo

Can see it been taken from Qatar now if its about the sponsors

Not far off, Uefa isn't much better either, Platini was heavily linked with Qatar's 2022 bid.

I hope Department of Justice take more people down. Fifa's best chance is cleaning house and starting from the ground up under increased scrutiny.

Has he a good pension sorted out for himself like our dodgy politicians !

Do you need a big pension if you end up in the Big House.

At last, the one FIFA brown envelope we've all been waiting for: the one with Sepp Blatter's resignation letter inside it.

Feels like summer has truly begun now.

Not if the USDOJ/FBI have something on him.

Thing is the organisation was corrupt well before Blatter. I was listening to David Goldblatt on RTE Prime Time a few days back explaining how the dodgy dealings go back several decades.

While I welcome the departure of Blatter, FIFA has a hell of a long way to go before it can be trusted. I'm not sure there will be a genuine will to change. The fact that Blatter got re-elected shows that they are corrupt from top to bottom.

I don't know how it can be cleaned up without some sort of sweeping external effort.

A nice opportunity to revive this

Watch out for all the UK pundits and talking heads queuing up to put the boot in now that it won't generate bad vibes for the self-confessed Best League in the World™.

    Terrific news!

    I wasn't expecting this.

I assume today's revelations re: the €10m transfer of cash was the last straw.

    King Rat is dead.
Let's hope he sees a court room soon.

It actually has to be bottom up.

The issue with Blatter was that he was giving FIFA money to tiny countries who had just as much say in picking the president as, say, England or France.

These guys may not have been on the take but if you live in say, St Kitts, and have a nice permanent well paid job as the head of SKFA, then the status quo looks pretty good.

Not sure how you'd change all that without giving too much power to the big countries.

Jesus like, Delaney on 3/4 times the Taoiseach's wage. Expensive hotels in Switzerland.

Fcuking 50k per year and holiday in.
