    Bacca denied a hat trick

Nearly a fourth, some sort of wacky waving inflatable arms tube man move from the Dnipro goalie.

    Great save that.

Seemed fuller at kick off, looks like a lot of the big shots just didn't bother coming back after the half time whistle.

Yes that too- the VIP seats are ominously vacant- I thought they were the FIFA officials'

Was at the final in Turin last year, it was a good 20 mins into the second half when the posh seats started filling up again.

    Looks like delayed concussion.

Phew. Appears the clash to the head may have taken a while to catch up to him but he looks relatively okay, probably a concussion. Just further proof that head injuries need to be taken seriously in football.

Football needs blood substitutes like Rugby. Its stupid having the team down a player now because he physically can't continue.

    Congratulations Sevilla. Great final.

Sevilla are some club, deservedly into the champs league.

Really enjoyed that. Some effort from Dnipro as 6/1 underdogs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

Forgot that they missed out on CL football through their league position, some way to get into the tournament after all.

4 victories now, most of any team.

Is that 5 Spanish teams in the CL next season so?

An excellent final to a by and large from what I've seen Europa league campaign, has been some cracking games. Hopefully Liverpool take it very seriously next season.

Yes, well Valencia will have a 3rd round qualifier like man utd will but they should in theory do the job.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,790 ✭✭✭Bret Hart

Both the highest CL and Europa League winners are Spanish.

Spanish clubs really know how to win European competitions.

Even after a player collapsed on the pitch and everyone panicked another played lay down pretending to have a head injury. Football doesn't need more rules.

Don't they go straight into the group stage of the CL if Barcelona win on Saturday week?

Spanish teams really put English teams to shame in Europe. Consistantly getting far in European competitions.

Did i hear tonight Sevilla only lost 1 game in Europa and drew 2 or 3? Scoring 29 goals. Incredible.

Yet some English fans seem to think it's a silly competition. I'll tell you what's silly, thinking you're to good for Europa and failing to get into the CL. Sevilla missed CL by 1 point yet did the job tonight and will get through to CL.

This whole thing of 'too many games etc' has been proven wrong time and time again. Sevilla lost 1 game in last 22 now I think? Which was against Real Madrid.

Delighted for them. More prove(As if it was needed) that Europa isn't pointless.

    100% agree.

We have the same nonsenssical debates in France... Maybe one day our institutions will open their eyes and realise we only have 2 European Cups in our entire History.... How shameful ?!

Sevilla were unlucky as it was to miss out on a top 4 spot in the league so in a way this is a fair fit for them.

Great game and a great team won it.

A Club should take European competition cautiously. Otherwise they risk imploding in both and their league position is ultimately the most important. Sevilla have a quite an ensemble squad with quality players. Many English clubs outside the top four have no depth to their sides outside the first XI. They fail to rotate their players and as a result suffer both domestically and abroad. English clubs need to take to take it in steps. The first season qualify for Europe, use that to give B players a chance. Look to maintain league consistency first and foremost. Then try to balance that with the best go at Europa. If the club get's successive seasons in Europa and approaches it positively they might grow from it.

The attitude most English clubs take towards is shambolic. :(

A fantastic final, I only tuned in originally to watch Konoplyanka who was hugely impressive.

It was a great match, no dirty play, no play acting, no acting the dick by rolling all over the pitch at the slightest contact. The 3 big teams in Spain could learn a lot from Sevilla.

Question though, under these new rules regarding the winners of the EL qualifying automatically for the CL, what happens to that place should they also qualify through their league position?

Fulham was 2010 and Middlesbrough was 2006. Chelsea won it in 2012.

To put it into perspective, since Middlesbrough were in the final, there has been 7 Spanish finalists (including 2 all Spanish affairs) and 6 Spanish winners of the tournament.

In that same time there has been 4 Spanish winners of the Champions League to 3 wins by English clubs.

That was really entertaining last night.
If the CL final comes close to it we ll be lucky but i fear it will be as it went very often, the "biggest" final being the disapointing one.

And Feyenoord being the only team able to beat Sevilla in Europe this season.

They go into the play off round, but if the Champions League holder spot is not needed they will go into the group stage.

So basically they are in the group stage as both Juve and Barca have already qualified for next seasons champions league via the league so holder spot is not used

As well as being the most dominant league in the Champions League, La Liga clubs have won the Europa league in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015.
    That's pretty impressive.

well it hardly puts the english clubs to shame in fairness...3 champion league wins is respectable
