I won't make it myself tonight but Mick Flannery always puts on an outstanding show, one of the best songwriters around at the moment.
If the weather is decent I'll try to get in to a few daytime events over the weekend although this was quite disappointing last year.

Jeez, I was in Limerick city centre this morning and you'd never think there was anything happening this weekend. I didn't even know anything was on this weekend, there certainly isn't anything to show otherwise, that I saw.

All this stuff really needs to be advertised properly. Radio, papers, posters etc. A FB page in itself is no good.

Exactly. Putting this stuff on a FB page is no good. Very few people are going to check FB to see if there's anything worth going to Limerick for. It needs to be advertised in mainstream media. You would honestly not know from walking around the city centre yesterday that any festival was happening in the town. I saw some bunting/flags on part of Cruises street which I barely noticed. What's the point in trying to draw people to Limerick but not advertising it outside of Limerick?

As for the BBQ competitions, why is it just a few professionals that compete, why not make it a competition for ordinary people with a flare for BBQ? All in all as far as festivals in Limerick go, it tends to be something most people stumble across and from what I read they tend to be fairly boring and repetitive, which is a real shame since they have a lot of potential.

I have to say I was in town this morning and there was great excitement around. Thomas/Catherine street had over sized chairs that people were sitting on and taking pictures. Over sized flowers put all around in flower pots and on poles. There was a huge floating duck at the end of Thomas street. Great fun for kids. We went to arthers quay to see the tent and there was a carousel for kids. Free face painting and lots of other bits and bobs. There was free workshop for kids with lots of musical instruments and drums it's was excellent. We went from there to the market and the smell of food etc. limerick rocked today.

I was around Thomas street with the kids around lunchtime, pity about the weather, it was really cold today, but I have to say the atmosphere was good and even though there wasn't a lot happening it seemed like a holiday weekend anyway. Will go back tomorrow and head down to the tent as well. Any decent food options down there or is it the usual?

As I said, all Limerick based advertising. The majority of the country won't be reading Limerick newspapers.

I don't mean to sound argumentative but a one of 2 minute slot on an ITV news programme is not productive advertising and I've never heard of ceolcolllective, I doubt many others have either. It needs to be on tv adverts and in national newspapers. Successful national advertising means more visitors, more spending and a bigger better festival in the future. As it stands now, going on the reviews I've seen, I wouldn't even cross the road to see it, let alone travel to Limerick.

Was your father looking for a bit of craic or was he just going about his business as usual, seem strange that you would choose to share this information with us.
In my opinion town and in particular the affected areas were a good bit busier than usual despite the inclement weather, I was at the spiegeltent this afternoon and called to the market for Africa day also, nothing special admittedly but both were well worth a detour. I can't imagine people travelling for this weekend in Limerick but as most of us are locals then it can only be a good thing.
