Trailer number plate lights

Are lights for the number plate on a trailer a requirement in the EU? I have seen references to it being a requirement in the UK but not sure if that also applies in Ireland or continental Europe.

Hi there, first time using boards so bare with me. Just wondering with all this regulations brought in with car trailers, is it possible to get a homemade (few years old) double axle 8x4 car trailer plated or stamped to bring it up to new regulations???
