Friday 29 May (Kickoff time 19.45 unless stated)

    Tolka Rovers vs Waterford United
    Dundalk vs Shelbourne
    Galway vs North End United
    St Patrick's vs Shamrock Rovers
    Bohemians vs Firhouse Clover
    Bray Wanderers vs Limerick
    Drogheda United vs Cabinteely
Longford Town vs Finn Harps (20.00)
Wexford Youths vs Cork City (20.00)

    Saturday 30 May

Killester United vs Cobh Ramblers (14.30)
Athlone Town vs Liffey Wanderers (19.45)

    Sunday 31 May

    Cobh Wanderers vs Avondale (14.00)
Edenderry Town vs Derry City (14.00)
Cockhill Celtic vs St Mochtas (14.30)
Sligo Rovers vs Crumlin United (17.00)
    UCD vs Sheriff YC (19.00)

Tie of the round is fairly obvious St Pats vs Shams. Hopefully we can extend Rovers drought in the cup for another season although our form is ordinary atm.Could easily go to a replay. Dundalk should have an easy one against Shels, Cork have a somewhat tougher match against Wexford but still should go through tonight. Bohs and Derry also should go through fairly easily.

Potential shocks possibly Killester against Cobh Ramblers and Sheriff against UCD but Im not entirely sure of the quality of the non League of Ireland sides.

Pity St.Pats v Shamrock Rovers isn't on TV, I've a feeling that'll be a cracker seeing as Dundalk seem to be running away with the league.

Cork City should be beating Wexford tonight, if we can't, then theres something seriously wrong.

Small tip, Cobh Wanderers are 4/1 to beat Avondale on Sunday. Avondale are in self destruct mode at the moment with talk in Cork that half the squad won't play 100% for the current manager. Cobh also recruited 4/5 Avondale players from last year so theres a bit of an edge to this one. Avondale finished 3rd from bottom MSL Premier this year. Cobh walked the second division.

We only beat Shels 1-0 in the EA Cup a couple of months back but that was mainly with the kids and in fairness we absolutely dominated that game. Much stronger team out this evening with only a few non-regulars playing. (Jake Kelly, Shane Grimes and Kurtis Byrne. Barrett too I suppose but he's been playing regularly the last few weeks). Should be a comfortable evening's work.

I hate that bell. Sloppyness at the back and a fine finish from Conan Byrne makes it 1-0.

Excellent game between Cork and the Youths tonight, very happy with our performance.

    I ****ing hate that bell.

Guess Bucko still in a job for another week......we werent any different than any other game this season other than we defended very well and attacked with intent forcing them into mistakes. Reckon the 352 will be used until Ger O brien is back.

Lee Fcuking Desmond ♥ was outstanding tonight as the right sided centre back in a 3, mc guinness was very good. Chambers MOTM after being over run in the 1st 20 when Rovers should really have scored, was all Pats after that until a fan induced nervy end......Rovers had nothing up front but fans panic and then the players follow suit....

Sounds like Firhouse gave us a good game until they started to tire.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Galway United were terrible against North End United. A goal from Jake Keegan in the 3rd minute was the difference between the sides.
Galway never got going and could have gifted the game to North End on a few occasions. A good performance from the Wexford team, I'd say they will feel hard done by on the long trip home.

With the U-19 winning the league this year and players like Hoare, Desmond, McGrath, Verdon, Bayley and Markey coming through it looks good for the future.

I was very impressed with their result, North End have had a real marathon season by now. Didn't expect them to achieve an awful lot after ~45 games.

Almost all of the under 19s are 18 and sitting their leaving cert now.

Bucko knows what a club should do and it takes 5 years minimum but its worth it.

i dont expect titles but I expect a pats team playing to win and playing good football.

Sounds like Firhouse gave us a good game until they started to tire.

They got an equalizing penalty on the stroke of half time... and it was scored by a life long Bohs fan playing for Firhouse. Class/fitness gulf showed in the second half.

LOL at Roddy Collins' Waterford losing to non-league Tolka Rovers btw.

Second absolutely useless performance in a row by United. I'd say Cork will hammer us on Friday.

Thought both teams weren't great myself.

Fahey anonymous again. Pats did good business there.

Two mistakes for the goals sealed it although Byrne took the first one lovely.

We badly need another forward and are quite one dimensional and slow on our forward and wide play.

Obviously it's said nearly every game but the officials were comically bad. Penalizing legit tackles, ignoring loads of fouls and then completely missing two blatant shoves in the box.

Also, without sounding sour grapes about it, while I wouldn't call Pats under Bucko a dirty team as such, they're as bad - worse actually - than Sligo under Cook for petty, niggly fouling, rolling around, shoving and generally trying to get players booked. It's like the personality of Killian Brennan has gradually seeped into the team.

Maybe Bucko just gets them geed up for Rovers like that, dunno.

Stroll in the park last night against poor old Shels. Ironic cheers from their fans after about 70 minutes when they got their first corner summed up how much of the ball they had. Local lad Ciaran O'Connor continues to progress nicely and had a nice half hour cameo setting up two goals. Only 18 but he looks like a strong player.

Great news for all you fans of artificial pitches. After the game chairman Ciaran Bond strongly hinted that we'll be getting a brand new state of the art 3G pitch for next season. There had been rumours that the grass would be returning next year but last nights comments seem to have knocked that idea on the head.

Nothing wrong with artificial pitches.....when they are looked after and kept up.

But for top level football Dundalk should be using grass or 4g pitches as 3g isnt very good.

Why don't you think 3G pitches are very good? Top flight clubs in Sweden, Scotland, Italy and France use them. The FA announced last season that they have no problem with clubs using 3G pitches and for the first time allowed clubs to use them in the FA Cup. Fair enough as you say they need to be looked after but to say they are not acceptable for top level football clubs doesn't really stack up.

4g isnt tested by UEFA yet, there are a few in Ireland Old Wesley have 1. Its far superior to 3g, ball bounces well and holds up when played forward.

On the point of your pitch if you use it as additional income. Assuming its rented out 3 times a night @120 PH for 208 nights thats 74k a year. Hardly seems worth it for the cost of upkeep.

Not doubting 4g is superior. It's bound to be but the point is that 3G is sufficient and better than 'isn't very good' as you originally stated. New pitch will cost €300,000. Same one as the FAI have just installed in Abbotstown.

With regards to the renting out of the pitch the arse has kind of fallen out of that revenue stream a bit. As you say it probably isn't worth it for the cost of the upkeep but as the chairman said last night we now have an U17, U19 and three ladies teams. With that amount of football being played on the pitch the grass would be in ribbons.

Mates with Malahide with regards to linking up with their young players and exchanging coaching ideas. When you say using their facilities do you think we'll be training down there and playing under 17/19 matches there?

The draw for Round 3 has been made. Stand out tie has to be Cork vs holders Pats. There's also an all-non league affair.

    Bohemians vs Bray Wanderers
    Cobh Wanderers vs Sligo Rovers
    Cockhill Celtic vs Longford Town
Cork City vs St Patricks Athletic
    Derry City vs Drogheda United
    Galway United vs Dundalk
    Sheriff YC vs Athlone Town
    Tolka Rovers vs Killester Utd

    Third Round Fixtures this weekend.

    Friday August 21st

Cork City vs St Patrick's Athletic 7 25pm Live on RTE 2
Sherriff YC vs Athlone Town 7 45pm
Bohemians vs Bray Wanderers 7 45pm
Derry City vs Drogheda United 7 45pm
Galway United vs Dundalk 7 45pm
Tolka Rovers vs Killester United 7 45pm

    Saturday August 22nd

Cockhill Celtic vs Longford Town 5 00pm
Cobh Wanderers vs Sligo Rovers 7 00pm

Tie of the round is Cork vs Pats. Both teams had bad results on Monday and have some injuries. Almost sure that both our main strikers are out. So it could be Greene or Langley upfront. Have a feeling that this will end in a draw tomorrow night and will go for a replay on Monday which Im hopefully but not confident that we will go through.

Other tie that really stands out is Galway vs Dundalk. Galway knocked out Dundalk in the EA Sports cup semi final but Dundalk played a reserve team and Kenny wont be so compleacent this time. Dundalk also destroyed us in the first half on Monday while Galway drew against Drogheda. Galway also have a few players missing I think so I reckon Dundalk will go through quite comfortably.

Bohs and Bray is a repeat from Monday night which Bray won 3-1 although that was in the Carlisle Grounds. Bray are in good form recently so I think they might go through. Derry and Drogheda is the other all Premier Division tie. Drogheda are in terrible form atm and while Derry's revival has gone a bit awry in the last two matches, they have played better in the last few weeks. Still a tough one to predict.

Longford and Sligo should have no real issues getting past Cockhill and Cobh Wanderers. While Sherriff could cause a shock against Athlone who havent improved since Matthews joined while Sherriff knocked out UCD in the last round. I know nothing about Tolka Rovers and Killester so cant really say anything about it.

Dundalk V Pats guaranteed to draw each other in the quarter finals. Killian Brennan guaranteed to get himself sent off in retribution for the 'Teenage Kicks' incident. Although in fairness he'd probably get himself sent off anyway.

Apparently City have 7 listed as injured, 2 cup tied, and 1 Billy Dennehy. I havn't listened to JC's weekly presser yet (available on the tube for anyone interested) but someone said the tone was very much leaning toward bringing Billy back into the team out of pure necessity. Tomorrow night will be interesting either way although I would expect a Pats win.

Don't think you can win a 'your players are dirtier than our players' argument right now.
