Is it difficult to root? Would never have done that before

You have the Redmi 2 pro?
    Not the Redmi Note 2?

    I ask because it's a different method.
Here is the method for the Redmi 2 pro:
    http://playfuldroid.com/how-to-root-xiaomi-redmi-2-pro-in-less-than-an-hour/
Follow the steps below on how to root Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro

    1. Connect your to your PC using an appropriate USB cable.
    2. Copy the Towelroot apk from your PC to your device’s SD card.
    3. Open the file explorer app ( if you don’t have one on your device, then you may want to download either Astro File Manager / ES File Explorer ) and install the Towelroot apk by tapping on its icon.
    4. Open the Towelroot app and tap on the “Make it ra1n” button to begin rooting your device.
    5. After awhile your device should reboot itself.
    6. Now, head down to the Play store and install the SuperSU app for your device.
    7. Congratulation! You’ve just rooted Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro!
As with all rooting processes, you are responsible for anything that may go wrong and it may void your warranty.

I haven't tried that method, I'l be trying a different one, as I have a different phone, but that seems straight forward enough.

More (probably better) info here - http://en.miui.com/thread-95649-1-1.html

yes its the redmi 2 pro,Thanks for that might give it a try if i am brave enough,

In releation to the warranty part the fact that gearbest have sold this with virus on it and not the official miui rom does that give me any comeback

It should be safe enough to root.
Just make sure you follow the instructions to the letter. Don't skip a bit thinking you know that already etc..

There are quite a few videos on youtube showing how to use towleroot if you want to watch them first to get an idea of the process.

Why do you need instructions? Just download the latest SuperSU zip, 2.46 I believe and flash it in recovery. Never understand these difficult to use flashing applications. It really is very simple.

That didn't actually work for me. Flashed from twrp and got a binary not installed error...

Yeah, I think Xiaomi have it locked or in some cases hidden somehow. I think you have to flash recovery and then SuperSU.
It's less of a headache too (with Xiaomi).

Worked fine for me. Have done it 5+ times, have to do it after every update to the ROM which is a bit of a pain. Might be your download which was the problem.

The Wileyfox Swift for $89 (€79 by todays rates) on preorder seems pretty good..

Using code JD999 to get $20 off preorder. I think it's today only.

I thought the same and so tried a couple of different ones but still same binary not installed issue.

Which are the best options sub 500 with a fingerprint scanner?

OnePlus Two is the only option I'm considering at the minute.

If you're considering spending up to 500 then I'd wait for the pricepoint on the new Nexus.

Ireland is going to be one of the first countries to get it too so hopefully it should be around October.

The 5x is reportedly going to cost $379 in the USA so I don't see it going over your budget.

I know it's not a china Phone but to be fair if it's coming in close to €350 who needs the hassle with getting one?

Actually just checked, for some reason the Paddy Tax is bringing the price from $379 to €479 in Ireland.

ZUK Z1 fits the budget, there's a thread around for it

Was set in getting the 6P but it's a bit more than I'd be willing to spend. 2gb of ram in the 5 might be a deal breaker for me, does look nice though

The 6P looks really good, but the One+One is similar enough and half the cost.

Rocking the OPO at the minute, if I didn't love my gimmicks so much I'd keep this for a lot longer.

Wish yotaphone would announce a new phone

Have you the first one or the new one? I've never spend over €170 on a phone and I have a crappy S3 mini at the moment that's driving me nuts. I'm really thinking about going for the new one.

Have the first, got an invite for the new one but hadn't the cash at the time

I've been looking at some Huawei phones after seeing a video of the Mate7, what would be the easiest way to order one for Ireland ?

€359 from Amazon Italy which is a great price. €371 delivered is still a good price.

Looking at pre-ordering the Elephone Vowney from http://www.elephonestore.com/ who seem to have an option to ship from the EU for the $299.99 price. Is this even possible?
