are they going to do the Bill tribute, then announce the winner of the dancing?
Bad juxtaposition, whatever way you look at it.

    I'm sure there'll be an ad-break first.

In fairness the tribute wasn't in their plans last week so they have to fit it in somewhere.

Am I alone in finding these phone competitions with the big prize that is on every live RTE broadcast nowadays except for the news and weather to be awfully tacky for a national broadcaster?

It's a scam, like all phone-in competitions and lotteries. It's to prey on old people and people who don't know any better.

Anything for a quick buck. A public broadcaster is supposed to be protecting and catering to those types, instead it'll suck them dry.

Rory annoys me, I can imagine him being quite unpleasant in real life

He's actually fairly sound. Was in a queue in a phone shop on Grafton st with him around xmas and he was yapping away and is actually funny too, full of smart comments.

Just read that recovery is about 12 weeks and he didn't exactly strain himself.

I see people after knee replacements regularly and I would have to agree...if you look at what George actually did,it really wasn't that high level or strain inducing at all..the girl did most of the movement around the place

I keep checking this thread to see if the Bill O'Herlihy tribute has started yet. I absolutely detest everything to do with dancing.

    It's on now.

It was very unique what Bill gave us, if you compare what BBC and ITV panels did and how the host controlled them, in previous attempts RTÉ just copied them for their version, Bill really let things flow and encouraged quality debate.

They should have had this tribute tomorrow night. Been a long and emotional day for Dunphy, Brady and Giles but perhaps I may be proven wrong. Sometimes tired and emotional makes it more meaningful.

    RIP BILLO

You know I was very sympathetic about Bill dying and I liked the guy...

But I was more than taken aback to find out that Frank Flannery was his best friend...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

I had a brief correspondence with Bill once.

He was more generous with his time than I had any right to deserve,

I think anyone who could call him a friend was very fortunate. RIP.

Bill was a good egg. RIP

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

Saw on Twitter, that the priest ended the funeral Mass today, by saying "Okey doke, we'll leave it there so..."

    Classic !

There was so many times there was nearly a walk off with Dunphy and Brady, always heated, I loved the passion between them for wishing the best for the Irish team.

jojo, do a search for "bacardi and coke" in inverted commas and look at the results for the TV forum.

Nearly all the results are about John:)

You'd be surprised how many sentences I finish with Bill's name.

"He doesn't know what he's talking about, Bill"

    "Rubbish, Bill."

    "The dream is over, Bill."

    Etc

In real life these two are the closest out of all the "Four" . They are allways out together, drinking and eating. The fallouts are just from two headstrong opinionated people, not from contempt. Although Brady hated him originally due to remarks he made when Brady left Italy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I loved the way Bill stirred things. A lot of sports presenters, whenever there's a row brewing with the guests, try to defuse it and change the topic to something less controversial. Bill was like, 'feck it, let's get ratings'. :):)

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,860 Mod ✭✭✭✭Say Your Number

Dunphy is dead on, the panel often times were way more interesting than the actual game

Love Bill's mischievous grin in that clip
