Lighting for a shed - solar or spur?

Hi,

I've got a shed which is approx 50 metres from the closest power source.

As it will only be occassionally used at night (and not require electrical sockets) I was considering installing solar powered floodlights.

Are these any good and/or would it be better to dig a cable spur from the mains down to this shed?

I've no idea as to how capable/robust these devices are, but it does seem that LED lighting is the correct way to go, correct?

never really put it in a shed but when it was fully charged in good sunshine it gave off pretty good light. The cable from light to solar panel was really long too, so having the panel up on the roof wasn't an issue, allowing the light itself to be located anywhere inside the shed. Only thing is it was a PIR one, so came on and off, so you could have it on permanently. Not sure if you would need it on permanently or if you only need it to come on as you enter, stay on for a while and then go off?

I did see a battery operated one recently, if I can find the link for that I'll add it later.

I'd go solar.

Get a decent sized panel a proper battery and a solar controller and it'll be reliable.
12V Floods are easy pick up.

As above get the parts and build a proper unit with small alarm type battery, solar panel, controller and if required separate sensor which is fully adjustable. It will last many years unlike the "all in one" which will fail.
If the light is for inside get a 12v tube /15w as it will give more effective working light. For outside a 5 or 10w LED flood will be better.Size the kit according to the load and usage times.

Looking to get a solar powered light for a shed. No access to esb wouldn't be worth it to get connected. Would only need 2or3 hours of light in the winter evenings/night. Anyone have recommendations? Budget €250
