Where would be the best place in the city to rent a 2 bed apartment with a hassle free commute to UCD

Depends entirely on budget. If money is no object, then Clonskeagh/Donnybrook/Booterstown etc are walking distance. Slightly further afield you have Milltown/Dundrum/Stillorgan/Blackrock/Ballsbridge all a long walk or short cycle away. After that you're looking at buses so anywhere along the N11 outbound is convenient for UCD with the QBC. Other alternatives are anywhere on the DART line, then 15 mins walk into UCD, or anywhere on the green luas line, which is 15-20 mins walk into UCD.

It does but its a much slower commute than if living on the other end of the 46a or 145 routes! And generally not a lot cheaper to live there either.

It would drop you off at the flyover.

you are far better off just living within walking distance, live close to where you need to be, it makes no sense to live further away for same rent, to pay for transport and waste so much time...
