    Hi everybody,
I am not sure if this is the right forum but don't know where to ask.

I am seeking information for a friend.
He has a 17 years old son that will move soon from abroad to Dublin.
He will need to enroll him in a secondary school for the last two years (dublin 15 area).

I've seen there are enrollment policies and waiting lists.
He will contact directly the schools to have information, but I was wondering if you had any experience / advice to give us?
Are usually the waiting list long? Will he be on time to start in September? Does he need to do any exam?

    thanks!
(feel free to move to another subforum if this is not the right section)

17-18 is how old students here are finishing in school and going to University here,
if his birthday is soon he would be too old to start the leaving cert in 4th/5th year in my opinion, and throwing him straight into 6th would be unfair academically depending on where he is at with it abroad.

i am not sure about Dublin but i'd imagine they have colleges/schools the same as here in Cork where you can do your leaving cert in a specialist school or in one year? they might be worth looking at rather than a secondary school.

It is nearer 18/19 now with more kids starting at 5 and with transition year.
Contact the schools in question directly.
