In my opinion, not the greatest of games. Waterford have been better, much better at times, but neither are setting the world alight. It confirms to me what I already knew anyway, that Tadhg de Búrca and Austin Gleeson are serious hurlers.

Impressed by Waterford so far, despite their wasted chances. Their pinpoint passing is lovely to watch.

scrappy game. Cork started well but Waterford got going after 15 min. Cork defence doing all they can with hooks and blocks but forwards winning very little ball, although some of the ball in has been poor.

Get the feeling Waterford are in second or third gear.

Not a bad game althou the ref zhould let it flow a bit.

Game well and truly over at this stage. Cork are brutal altogether but up against a very good Waterford side.

This is poor fare to be honest. Waterford know they have the better than Cork and aren't pushing themselves. That said, I'm not overly impressed by Waterford but I suspect they could have more, far more, in them.

I barely watched the second half. It wasn't good at all to be honest. Glad someone else thought so too.

It was a poor game but no fault of Waterford. My god, whats happening to Cork Hurling. I do fear for them after seeing that.

You wouldn't believe how disheartening it is to see Cork reduced to this. We are so far behind the other counties in Munster its a disgrace but no doubt the county board will point to injuries or some other ****e. Its all rubbish. our lads battled well but are being let down by things out of their control.

Waterford could have won by another ten points, dropped a load of ball short to the keeper in the 2nd half. Waterford so far ahead in skill level and strength and conditioning, men against boys.

Even as a Kilkennyman it gives me little joy to see Cork like this.

As a Waterford man while i am delighted with the win i am genuinely saddened looking at the game tonight, what on earth has happened to Cork hurling, not blaming the lads on show tonight they tried their best but honestly looking at that Cork are now way behind the top teams. I feel a bit like i did watching Germany destroy Brazil at the WC, seeing a team with such history reduced to that level is sad for the game of hurling. As others have pointed out it's been a long time since Cork have won at Under 21 level or even Minor level whoever is on the CCB needs to wake up and do something and fast.

Waterford building on the legacy of the team of the 00's, including having Mullane and Browne involved tonight.

Cork's team of the 00's has been blacklisted by the Cork county board

What's is happening in Cork? I dont get how they could be this fair behind... They are surely running the academies etc the same as everyone else??
Are they just doing the same things they did years ago and expecting the same results?

pretty much. not to mention penny pinching for the new PUC, not involving anybody who has played modern hurling, our last 2 All Ireland winning managers regularly on TG4 rather than get involved with the county board again and more.

All the strikers have retired but the board remain.

Things have moved on so much - even in the last five years - sounds like Cork are sabotaging their own chances.. I didn't get why people were blaming the county board but it appears that the strikers have been blacklisted in the settling of old scores?
It is disgusting to see people having that much power and doing such harm..

now honestly I have no idea if any of the 03 to 06 team are involved with their clubs and if they have any coaching experience but they should be brought in in some capacity, inspire the current underage teams. looking at tonight with Mullane and Browne involved with Waterford is just adding to the disappointment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 111 ✭✭The Slobs

That was Waterfords first u21 match win in 6 years

Dan won a minor County with Lismore, Ken is managing Mount Sion. Flynn is coaching, though not in Waterford, Fergal was managing Ballygunner last year. A lot of lads from those teams involved in coaching.

I meant the Cork team of ten years ago not being left/asked to get involved with Cork underage teams but it's good to see how a normal county board does things.

Dragging this thread off topic so well done to Waterford and best of luck against Clare

Sean Og does the Na Piarsaigh U11s, Gardiner is with the Na Piarsaigh U21s, Sully is managing the Cork U16 hurlers, Donal Og is doing the Cloyne/Russell Rovers (St Colmans) minor team.

Any chance there's live commentary of the Cats vs the Scallion Aters on KCLR?

Yes, according to their Twitter feed.

KK 1-02 Carlow 0-01 after five minutes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Very Bored

Commentary is on KCLR. Good old match in Tullamore up till now. Shame the crowd is so poor, suppose that's the downside of live TV.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Very Bored

Not a bad battle in Tullamore but the scoring is shocking low. Offaly deserve their lead. Goals seem to be the difference at Dr. Cullen Park.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Very Bored

    Half Time

Got going on the scoring in the last ten minutes.

    Carlow 0-08 Kilkenny 2-09

    Offaly 0-08 Wexford 0-07

Kevin Foley is going well for Wexford.

    Goal Wexford, pushing away.

Kevin Foley seven from play with less than three quarters gone.

Has the rule changed regarding throwing the hurl? Seems to be okay to do it these days and get no punishment

Ah goal in it in the KK-carlow game

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Very Bored

    KCLR commentary is very pro-Carlow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Very Bored

    Kevin Foley MoM... thoroughly deserved.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Very Bored

Wexford absolutely full value for their win, the gap in the scoreline is representative of their dominance in the second half.

Only sneaking past Carlow doesn't bode well for us in the final.

Only notable weak point of Wexford's performance was their wides, I counted 12.

  • Registered Users Posts: 587 ✭✭✭buggy beag

Would carlow have a good underage set up?dont know anything about them.to run kk to 2 pts in it is a great result or was it a one off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,541 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

That second goal from Wexford was superb. Two clever flicks in the build up, including the assist from Conor Mc.

Without bringing the catastrophe of Sunday into the spotlight again, it is a crying shame that our seniors can't seem move the ball with the same confidence and zip as our under-21's.

And Andrew Kenny and Padraig Foley must be considered for regular game-time for the seniors. Calling out for some fresh talent.

There's more strength in hurling in Carlow than first meets the eye. They haven't been helped by the league restructures over recent years and so the senior team has gone back a bit. It seems every time they get promoted the GAA reshapes the NHL and they end up staying down.
