Think he is doing a great job and is consistent, every one of those calls have been correct and its not his fault his fellow referees refuse to apply the rule correctly

+1. He's doing well. Enjoyable game.

Pulling up steps opens up/ speeds up game as players have to move ball more quickly. This game has improved as players not running into trouble.

Well in this game at the break. Some very poor wides have cost us.
Hopefully take our chances in the second half.

is Ennis a shorter than usual pitch or has Gleeson a huge puc of a ball?

Not a bad match so far. Gleeson is having a stormer.

Huge puck of a ball, Cusack Park is a fairly standard pitch length wise (~150 meters), it is fairly wide though.

enjoyable game, thought Waterford might be tiring but the goal is the lift they needed after Clare getting 4 or 5 points in a row

Good game alright, you'd expect better from SoD (or any senior playing under 21), that goal was very important for Waterford.

I think the ref is having a good game by the way.

Bobby is a class act, his uncle was 1 of the best players to ever play the game in Clare and was part of the 93 junior team.

Two woefull tackles unpunished from Waterford

That was the most blatant foul missed as far as I can remember.
Daithi Burke got a yellow for that against Dublin in the replay.

Also Clare were 5/2 pre game.. At HT only down 1.... 11/4.
I don't get bookies, id be putting that in from 5/2 and not away.

I think the ref is having a good game, the "foul" where the Clare wing back was going up the wing wasn't a free, he was looking for a free, technically it could have been a free against him for throwing the ball.

Shane O'Donnell very lucky there, that was the most blatant over carry of the game.
He's been pretty woeful for the most experienced player on the pitch.

Shane O'Donnell is some man for getting away with steps.

Where he got a shoulder into the chest?... That wasn't a free?. :\

Might have turned into it a bit, knew he running down a blind alley I think, don't get me wrong I'd take a free but I can see why it wasn't a free.

2 points, most dangerous lead in the game.

That would have been a brilliant score if it went over

    Same score after 59

Bobby Duggan just took a free from his own 21 and it was just under the cross bar.

21 saved (badly taken), 65 to WD now.

his own 45 I thought. Waterford persisting with the sweeper while chasing the game..again

    Great win by Clare.

Great game. Best of the u21 season so far. Unreal scoring from Bobby Duggan but Ian Galvin is worth a serious mention too.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,014 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

That's it, wow, I wasn't expecting Clare to win that, I definitely wasn't expecting them to win with SoD playing sh1te, take a bow Duggan & Cleary.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭Dan Chipowski

Huge surprise there, didn't expect Waterford to be so lifeless.

Couldn't even get the 65 into the square at the end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Very Bored

Even as a Cat who, by nature, doesn't like the Deise, that was harsh on Waterford. That's not to say Clare didn't deserve to win. It was just one of those games where whoever won you could say they had deserved it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,893 ✭✭✭allthedoyles

Waterford had too many wides - sloppy play , and needless solo runs that always lead to nothing .
Were never first to the ball ,and the best team won

Massive effort by Austin Gleeson though, not just in terms of scoring, Patrick Curran did very well also.

clare have some talent, being fair the u21 managers should take over seniors from next year. they deserve it.
Clare were clearly the better team tonight which is surprising given how many waterford seniors were on display.

  • Registered Users Posts: 587 ✭✭✭buggy beag

Was away so only caught the last few minutes.just curious but wondering did both teams line out pretty much 15 on 15 or was there a sweeper used?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,276 ✭✭✭thinkstoomuch1

Congratulations to clare fully deserves that win
I was as I said earlier hoping waterford would win in it would be nice for a new winner of the championship this year imo also and I'm huge fan Burke Gleasson Devine and Foran but no one can begrudge clare, champions truly die hard
Greatest ever under twenty time period they have been the last four years

Huge loss for waterford absoultey huge in the context of progression to senior this is a blow for the confidence of the younger lads as they were one to three on by the bookies and it shows unfortunately waterford still don't handle the favourite tags well as clare manager after said they unlike last year were significantly under dog and and extremely gracious interview by malonry said clare man for man were not good as waterford and called them he's words the golden bunch
Imo he was saying there system was then better
It was to be fair on that performance.

I'm surprised by this results I felt waterford would win
Waterford played the same system as the senior like clare also and I said this before clare sweeper is way more efficient that waterford system as just like the senior waterford system is not cohesive from attack to defence unlike clare system that imo had just that little bit more, clare had a fluidity and rhythm to every attack at pace, wonderful to watch.

This shouldn't affect the senior Dublin game however having said that waterford in the bookies are two to one favourite and like tonight and eight years ago senior all ireland semi final they don't do favourite tags well
Also this under twenty one team suffered a huge defeat, at home in a shock loss to a poor cork last year also so this isn't good a year later imo for waterford

I honestly thought this was the best prepared under twenty one side and most talented in a while and I expected like more from this waterford team

Fair enough The senior game was close to it but having said that clare had the same problems with under twenty once and senior and yet won the under twenty one all ireland three times

Huge set back for waterford this was the only team imo left with a chance of a trophy realistically wise

Like wise huge huge win for the last remaining clare side of all their four teams and there a credit to their county

Clare weren't also as strong as last year and there's been a lot of talk waterford have abundance talent forwards, the last two games at senior and tonight maybe they're not as good as they were being thought they were

For waterford Burke, curran, Gleasson and devine were excellent for imo

For clare Ryan galvin clearly and Gleasson and duggan were awesome

Great championship so far tomorrow tippeary are favourite and I fancied them to win it outright from the start but limerick id expect a huge performance and on tonight performance showed anything can happen tomorrow and I hope limerick win as while I wouldn't begrudge tipp over being close the last two years im a huge fan of some of the limerick lads like Byrnes lynch morrisey etc and there's cork connection with that team also.

I'll admit I was reserved to say the under twenty management should get senior job as I doubt joint management work but after tonight when total under dog won and fully deserves to win and tactical out thought waterford system this under twenty one set up its hard to say they don't deserve a shot at senior management after tonight

why would you think clare were total underdogs, I had clare as slight favourites
    due to home advantage

Bookies had clare eleven to four waterford one to three on with a four point spread

Waterford can't handle favourite tags and their under twenty one record two years in row as favourite is poor
Last year huge favourite at home to cork the lost also

Yep, Gerry o Connor not involved this year

I thought he was involved in a minor role

    I was wrong
Seanie mcmahon terrific man have and development under age squads or part to play in it I think also
