Highly recommended on RPS as well.

XCOM 2 is an improvement on its predecessor in every way and the vast majority of those improvements have been applied so intelligently that they risk making Enemy Unknown obsolete. That game was a smart remake of a classic. XCOM 2 is a classic in its own right and as good a sequel as I can remember.

Never played XCOM, idea of mods has me intrigued, could a xcom noob get enjoyment out of this? can't say i ever played a turn based strategy game but willing to give it a shot

TBS is not to everyone's taste, i'd be certain you actually like it before forking out the guts of 50 quid on it

the 2012 version is cheap enough if you wanted to try it, or ye could check out a few streams and see if you'd enjoy it

It's a different game altogether when you're playing it yourself though

I always hated RTS's. I cant remeber the 1st one I played but it tunred me totally off them. Since the original in the 90's I've always turned my nose up at the Xcoms. Always assumed all RTS's were the same.

I gave Enemy Unknown a shot 2 years ago after my mate constantly harping on about it. It's one of my favourite games ever! So yeah, you could enjoy it. That was just a great game to play regardless of genre and the new one sounds like a great improvement.

It's a bit like saying "Shooters" do you mean action adventure stuff? Do you mean Contra? Do you mean FPS's like Doom 4? Do you mean TPS's like Uncharted? Do you mean Links Crossbow Training for Wii?

I'd play Civilisations, Command and Conquer and X-Com, and to me all 3 are different genres

At this point, with the various 90+ reviews... I'm going to not even feel slightly bad about pre-ordering tomorrow. ****ing delighted I have something single player to get stuck into for Febru- 2016.

Pre-ordered deluxe edition in the Christmas sale; the feedback from the reviews (TB, NorthenLion etc.) I care about was good enough that I could realistically expect to enjoy the game.

Caved after an email from GMG yesterday offering me the Digital Deluxe for €48.75 (customer specific voucher code as far as I can tell so sign up for their newsletter to get these sent out, they generally send one with every big release). I do feel a bit dirty for pre-ordering, but there was never any doubt that I'd be picking this game up anyway.
