OK, long read ahead

EA, the company that published The Sims, has a service it calls Origin. Origin acts as a menu to let you instal and play any of your EA games and also as a shop to let you buy more. Origin is a program that you can download and instal on your computer here: http://origin.ea.com You will need to create an account to use it (it's free).

If your cousin has played The Sims 3, I'm pretty sure he will have used this Origin service as all EA games in the last 4ish years have had mandatory integration with Origin (which has annoyed some people, but doesn't bother me). Every game comes with a CD Key which is an anti-piracy measure (cause anyone can just copy CDs or DVDs). These keys are unique. When an online platform like Origin came along, you had to instead register this unique key with Origin so that your game would always be tied to your account and even if you lost the discs for it, you could download it and play it via Origin. This would solve your "no DVD Rom drive" issue on your newer laptop.

But, if the key for the game your cousin's sent you has already been used, then you can't use it.

Handiest workaround - ask your cousin to share his Origin account details, but I don't know if it allows you both to be logged in at the same time on 2 different machines.

hi guys

feeling much better today, I got very little sleep last night but wrote a hell of a lot was back in college today, was a long day and busy but good. Another person is sampling the course for two weeks, he's soo shy, all going well he'll get a place and join us full time in September. I hope he does as he's cute! We also had a presentation on cancer from the marie keating foundation which hit a raw nerve for me, but it was quite informative at the same time:)

Resting now for an hour or so and then off to Cahir to visit granny

And in a contrast to this morning, we get an unreasonably nice driver. Waits 20 minutes for someone, they don't show, leaving the town and they call, so he winds up looping all the way back around the town to get this one person.

Glad you're feeling better ATC. Hope your Gran is well. I've just been to see mine. She's lost 3kg in a month, that's almost 7lbs so that's not good..
