Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

'How I became a drug cheat athlete to test the system'

I watched the programme, whilst the testimony/ historical investigation was interesting, I wasn’t as convinced on the biopassport stuff. My understanding of the passport is that it takes them a significantly longer period to build up a profile, and therefore to identify anomalies. Not saying it can't, and isn't, being cheated and dopers are getting away with it, but I'm not sure this type of stuff (short time frame of before and after testing) really adds that much tbh.

The Passport can also be used for identifying suspicious levels for target testing, as well as outright passport cases. The way to tackle micro dosing is 24/7 availability for testing.

its a good read but did we learn anything?

Also how applicable is what he did to the long term monitoring of a pro cyclists? 14 week experiment compared to years of data

Probably should have added 'new' at the end of that!

Excellent piece by the BBC on the use of EPO micro doses'.

Basically the reporter takes EPO, monitors the effects and then tries to pass the current doping controls and blood passport

Whatever about the Pros taking/doing it, what about amateurs ?
I'm fairly sure there are amateurs out there going, yep, i'll give that a go !!
With in mind, what are the doping controls in Ireland like at amateur level ?

    This is pretty alarming !!
Despite taking EPO for seven weeks, seeing steady rises in my haemoglobin and haematocrit counts, and gaining a significant performance benefit, I was clean.

In my opinion what this shows is that the difference between altitude training benefits and micro dosing with EPO is not detectable by the biological passport. The experiment didn't include blood testing for banned substances. This highlights the need for the biological passport to be used in conjunction with testing for banned substances. The blood testing for performance enhancing drugs MUST continue rigorously. Given what I have seen in the last 9 grand tours unfortunately I'm not convinced the sport is any cleaner since the introduction of the biological passport. It is also being touted as the solution for all other sports which this great experiment identifies as a a false dawn. I hope Quintana wins the tour.
