Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I had a whinge to Mars Bar about the comparing of the men's and women's game but have to admit I went overboard, and tbf there is obvious difference in "most" players reactions to decisions and results. Still think over comparison isn't going to help the women's game longterm, but Mars Bar, apologies!

England and France have just kicked off. It's on BBC2 and BBC2 HD.

France appear to have a Manuel Neuer wannabe

Listening to a couple of 5live previews, I heard scary words such as gameplan and keeping it tight. Never good to hear, usually means a defensive setup.

Poor crowd, they were offering student tickets for equivalent of about 5 euro. About the right price for England's performance so far. France playing much the better football.

Keeper should have done better, crisp packet hands, deserved lead.

Really strong winds and it's been raining most of the day apparently.

Yeah thought the keeper should have gotten to that. A half a foot taller and she might have!

I think that's a soft free. The England player had every right to go for it and looked to get it too.

Do plastic pitches get waterlogged? That's my hope now!

England offering nothing here, very flat performance.
Where's Toni Duggan? Thought she was the the second coming for Women's game in England?

Also is Aluko related to the ex-Rangers and current Hull forward?

The England coach looks a smarmy git too :pac:

Just so negative from England, had bit more faith in Sampson than Powell, but he's reverted back to the same negative kind of stuff she used to coach.

Alukos are brother and sister. He plays for Nigeria afaik.

Yeah, she's his sister. She's also a lawyer!

    France's full backs are relentless.

The German full back Maier is the best full back I've seen so far, absolutely brilliant

Watched the Nigeria/Sweden game last night. It was a great game of ball, the Nigerian's were impressive on the attack but not so good at the back. In a couple of years with the right coaching staff they are going to win a big tournament I think.

There's an awful lot of tactical talk going on here at half time! This is great

Rachel Yankey says teams fear England, they must carry concealed weapons if that's the case.

Come on Lionesses! Have to be better this half.

Williams needs to stop giving the ball away.

Well at least England had a bit of a go second half, lacking quality but France were poor enough 2nd half too. Maybe sat on their goal and weren't too worried. Nasty elbow by one of the French early second half, doubt there will be any retrospective punishment though.

Hopefully the South Americans in the group live down to their ranking.

Just seen the last ten mins of this Spain game, Soni (number 8) looks a very, very tidy player.

The standard of women's football, has really improved alot in shorts space of time. Alot more strength in depth

I watched Brazil - Korea last night.

Formiga was the best player on the pitch by a distance, really impressive, and then I found out she's 37.

Brazil had lots of the ball but didn't really create much and both goals came from horrific Korea mistakes, they also looked a bit shaky in defence on the rare occasion Korea came forward.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Watched Brazil as well. They weren't great and probably should've conceded in hte last 30 minutes. I'd say the better sides will worry them.

Korea were very naive defending like a lot of teams so far. There are a hell of a lot of penalties for mistimed or misplaced tackles. Last night Formiga fell over a Korean outstretched leg. Ecuador gave a penalty away for crazily barging into the back of someone.

There's a lot of organisation, energy and athleticism - England showed this most of all, but then poor play with the ball. France have been the best with the ball at their feet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,775 ✭✭✭✭kfallon

Standard is very good apart from the keepers! I know the average woman would be smaller than the average man but a few of the goals have been the result of not enough strength in the wrists.

Still very enjoyable, just a pity some of the games are on so late!

Germany vs Norway currently on BBC3.

Currently 1-0 to Germany, who are playing some terrific stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,948 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Yeah some of the one touch passing between the germans is fantastic. Would have been interesting if Norway had scored from that very good counter attack though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,948 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Superb free kick for Norway and now they're level with Germany!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Fantastic free kick to equalise, right in the very top corner. Germany went straight down other end and nearly scored.

Enjoyed that game, couple of good ones in prospect tomorrow for the non sleepers. Australia v Nigeria (who are unbelievably cocky) and US v Sweden.

China are dominating the game against the Netherlands. They really should be a goal or two up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,424 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Chinese are a quality side. They would deserve to be in the lead by now

But the commentator on eurosport is a douche of the highest order. His derogatory comments towards women's football are appalling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,424 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Blatant penalty not given to China

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,948 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

The Chinese must have pissed someone off! Two decisions gone against them now in two games.

Rarely comment on commentators, but the chaps a fcking moran.

''It's not one of those nil nils, it's one of those'' what does that even mean!

    Awful commentary.

''They could have 100 chances still wouldn't score'' Less than 10 seconds goal.

    Delighted for China

Dunno if posted but hard to take this seriously when this happens.

I remember seeing this at under 7s and found it amusing.

Give the girl a break, she was only holding the ball for a few seconds, how was a ref supposed to have spotted that.

Agree 100%. I've watched a few of the games so far and hardly any moaning/diving/faking. The men could learn a few things from them.

10 goals for the swiss , 3 hatricks including fastest ever wc hattrick:eek:

    Great support for the US.

Well Winnipeg is only 62 miles away from the American border, in fact most big Canadian cities are less then 100 miles from the American border.

It takes you longer going from Montreal to Toronto driving then it does to get to Montreal to upstate New York

True enough. Would England, France, or Germany's women's teams be as well supported?
