Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

England on BBC 3 shortly, have to win against Mexico really after opening game defeat. Hopefully they will have a bit more going forward tonight than they did against the French.

Edit: Columbia beat France, so group is wide open.

England just can't string more than a couple of passes together. Give the ball away time and again, scrappy start again so far.

England get their goal on the 70th minute!

That second touch under the defender was great.

Thank goodness. Kirby has deserved that.

Greenwood has offered a lot more going forward than Rafferty did but I think that was as much the coaches choice rather than the players inability to attack.

    Safe now hopefully.

This is her first WC isn't it? She's been very good.

Yeah she's only 21, was out with depression apparently, very open about it, seems like a level headed girl, playing in the second division and scored a shed load this season. Seems to have a lot more about her than the more heralded strike partners anyway.

Very good read about the US keeper Hope Solo and her recollection of events surrounding her arrest last summer, seemingly being some considerable way from the truth, she doesn't come across very well at all. On the whole US team really need to look at their PR in general, pretty much* universally disliked.

Guardian follow up piece on US football's response.

    * I hedged my bets with the "pretty much", I know you can't be pretty much something and universally something at the same time! :pac:

Thailand v Germany will be on bbc red button. Think it will be too one sided to be interesting but you never know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,191 ✭✭✭✭Shanotheslayer

Is that a full strength German team?

Ivory Coast are just hanging in there because of the offside trap. It's only a matter of time before Norway gets the second and the floodgates will open. I do fancy CIV to get one. Their no. 11 is decent and Norway are committing fouls almost every time CIV get forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,948 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Hederberg has just missed an open goal. I can't understand why the Ivory Coast are playing with such a high line. Their defenders are getting caught between retreating and putting on pressure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,948 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Norway finally beat the offside trap and get their second. Hegerberg with the goal.

Some of CIV's antics are kind of annoying.

    Cracking goal there from civ:eek:

The smallest player on the pitch has just scored an absolute cracker for the ivory coast! It's Norway 3 CIV 1

    Marta just loves showing off

Excellent game this China v New Zealand, 2-2 with ten minutes to go. China wasting time and playacting the last few minutes though.

Chinese coach got sent off for nothing, debatable play acting at best, red card was lol

Bad form by the NZ coach not shaking hands.

My second look at it, it looks worse than i initially thought as i thought he had tripped over her. A red still seems harsh although she didn't show him a card so i don't technically know he was sent off just asked to leave.

Managers cannot be shown a red card (or yellow if appropriate). To send a manager off the ref sends him/her to the stands. Cards are reserved for players only.

Is the USA match on Eurosport later or just on BBC Red Button?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,948 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Eurosport are showing Australia vs Sweden later

The Columbian goalkeeper could have done with pushing that free kick a bit wider but fair play to Carney, she reacted quickly.

England certainly look like they mean business here.

Nifty footwork from Lady Andrade of Colombia!

Penalty to England for a handball in the box. Colombia are giving away so many free kicks.

    Goal for Williams!

EDIT: Harsh penalty IMO. The ball took a deflection and her hand was taking its natural course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,248 ✭✭✭✭BoJack Horseman

That was some slick move by Colombia there, shame it didn't result in s goal.

Only saw the second half. England made hard work of it, sounds like they were decent first half though, onto next round anyway.

Thought this was very funny, the Norwegian team being fantastically sarcastic.

L16 just kicked off, Sweden v Germany on BBC3/Eurosport. Fairly sick tie for both sides really, first and fifth in the world meeting whilst theres plenty of poor teams remaining in other parts of the draw.
Germans just look better so far.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Good goal from the Germans, very long way out for the keeper to be beaten though.

Poor decision from the ref, German dived imo, at best it was a very very soft pen.

    Germans cruising to last 8.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Sweden have stank the tournament out, barely deserved to go through from the group. No creativity.

Looking forward to China v Cameroon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,212 ✭✭✭shamrock55

Shame if camaroon go out, they give it their all and play some nice ball too, if china win they wont go any further they are poor enough

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

China are more organised, but that's not difficult considering how bad Cameroon's offside trap is. But Cameroon should be level at least by now.

USA should beat them both, but China might be more difficult.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,775 ✭✭✭✭kfallon

The standard of keeping in this tournament is very, very average!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,948 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

The standard of keeping in every women's tournament is very, very average. Better than it was before which was utterly abysmal but still average.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,948 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

That is some result for Australia though. Brazil underwhelm yet again at a major tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,516 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

    Jaysus, Barcelonaesque goal by France.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

France look like they are going to walk this, 2 nil after 9 minutes

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Brazil might blame their keeper, but there was no combination upfront, they barely worked it together. Same as a lot of teams, poor decisions with the final ball - Cameroon were another one.

Exactly the opposite from France, they don't look indecisive with the ball at their feet and they look far superior and unbeatable. Boulleau and Le Sommer are great players.
