Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

USA are a very good, look the best side in the tournament. Hope they go on to win it, played lovely football against Germany in the semi.

I've just seen the own goal. That is so cruel. Poor Bassett. :(

Hope the USA win the final!

Blame really has to go on the manager. The last sub changed the complexion of the game and left England completely open.

Hoping a team loses because of half time analysis is a new one on me. Baffling.

I was bring slightly dramatic, I really didn't care who won.

But you can be biased and still call things as they are. You can say that the English girl made the most of the touch in the box 'but that's what you do'...not cry 'definite penalty' a thousand times.

Please disregard all mention of 3rd place play off being a joke until England throw away their one goal lead.

The headline writers are standing by their computers waiting for a German winger to get 2 and win it . "Dabritz beat England"

I really don't think they have been much more skilful this game, Carney had been best player on the pitch for me. The Germans were lucky to even get this far imo.

Well deserved, and first win against Germany in 21 games?

    Very proud of the Lionesses.

The Irish one? Emma Byrne. I'm watching it on BBC because of her.

Do big teams care about the third place play off?

Thought Germany were very ordinary today and for most of tournament tbh.

    Delighted for the England girls.

Germany may not have been as ecstatic.

But they are the number 1 team, so they have fallen short anyway.

Both countries put out very strong teams today, seemed more on it than mens 3rd 4th place games.

Was it? Who knows with fifa!, all I know is England ladies have done better than the men have managed since 1966, and I'm a convert to womens football.

It's the difference between a bronze medal and going home empty handed isn't it?

Fabulous result for the Lionesses. Number 1 in Europe for ladies football.

Professional sports people like winning medals, so yes, it matters.

I just think the way the team played all tournament was great, they gave 100%, even when the coaches tactics weren't particularly inspiring.

That's the only downside, having to spend an hour with David Cameron.

Depends on the opponent a bit as well i guess.
And in what mood you are. Underperforming or overperforming by going out in the semi-finals

Just looking at Holland and their 2 3rd place plays off at WC.
In '98 it seemed they couldnt care less vs Croatia with a lot of subs playing in that match.
Last year vs Brazil they played the strongest 11 possible.

No. Extra time counts in deciding the result. If it went to penalties it would have officially been a draw.

The Copa final for example will be recorded as a 0-0 draw.

France will be looking at these sides thinking they have left the trophy behind in the quarterfinal.

There's a lot of 'organisation' and discipline in the semifinal sides, but not a whole lot of creativity, a lot of penalties. Wouldn't be surprised to see the final to be another game decided by penalties.

I hope the U.S win tonight! Unfortunately I won't be watching it.

    Is Jacqui Oatley sexy?

    Genuinely can't decide.

Johnathan Pearce: "I'm pretty certain that England would have won here tonight and lifted the World Cup."

Unreal statement as you have to win a semi-final to get there.

Some of this defending by Japan is comically bad.

    4-0!!

I wonder is the massive shadow caused by the roof structure playing havoc with the Japanese?

The ball falling from shade-light & vise versa can be hard to judge?

    Game over.

This reminds me of Brazil v Germany last year.
