Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

English Anthem went off without a hitch.

    Which was nice.

No it didn't and no it wasn't.

They're much better than us on paper. Hopefully we can make it competitive though.

Do people think the anthems will be respected?

    Great question. :)

I thought they were received well. Compared to the way the English anthem has been received by Welsh and Scottish fans in recent years, that was far more respectful.

Did anyone else catch the massive pair of tits in the front row of the stand just there? Caught me completely off guard!

(By the way I'm not referring to John Delaney and his missus, that's an entirely different pair of tits)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,522 ✭✭✭tigger123

    Boos though.

It wasn't that bad really. I've heard worse directed at Irish players and management in the Aviva/Landsdowne.

Was pretty tame, a couple of idiots.

Something strange about watching an Ireland match at this time, and seeing it in bright sunshine... at home.

A band and the crowd singing is the only way it should be done

Enough of these models/singers/zlists or whoever they get

Very much so, to give credit where it's due the two FA's and the Gardaí did a great job removing any chance of trouble, in terms of timing of the match (I'd imagine many English fans would be nursing bad hangovers as they are fond of the Guinness when the come over) as well as the Jack Charlton thing which both countries have historic connection with.

Ball seems to be moving very slow across the surface.

That comment has really highlighted how old I am! Every home game at Lansdowne up to the mid 90s was played during the afternoon. It was once strange to see Ireland play at home under floodlights.

Admittedly it wasn't always sunny :)

The Aviva looks amazing today in fairness.

I was surprised to see this wasn't on any Irish TV station.

Weird seeing the camera position from the east stand.

I remember those days! We used to be allowed to listen to the matches on the radio in the afternoon while at school, always raucous affairs, especially when we beat Northern Ireland 3-0!! Great memories :)

Sterling getting booed is a bit cringeworthy.

Weird seeing the camera position from the east stand.

ITV have their camera in the East Stand and Setanta have it in the West Stand, its strange flicking between the two!

1pm KickOff is a bit pointless as it proves nothing if/when the match passes off peacefully.
Would be better to have it at normal o'clock like the 1995 game - we'll eventually draw them in a qualifying group (or in Euro2020 at the Aviva) and it'll be at 7.45 on a Friday night or suchlike.

I'd tend to agree. If you shutdown the entire area around the ground and make the area a sanitised zone on a Sunday morning for a friendly...of course it will pass off 'successfully'. It's the main way of dealing with troublesome fixtures.

Will bear no reflection to a competitive game.

Really has the feel if a friendly. Lots of space, no crunching tackles, surprisingly little atmosphere.

Even in comparison with the friendly in Wembley last year, this seems much gentler. More open game though, so entertaining

I'd guess it's probably local Liverpool fans. Didn't he get booed at the club's end of season awards bash?

Great to see McGeady has decided to.play ball today. Great 15mins.

Why are they booing him? Missed the first few mins.

Yeah I remember watching that game in the hall in my primary school. They wheeled in a little telly which the whole school had to try and watch - better than a radio I suppose! Good days. Every game we expected to win back then - how times change!

Good opening 15 minutes against pretty much a first choice England team

Because he wants to leave Liverpool

    Softish free kick for McGoldrick

The Irish Liverpool faithful are probably upse over his contract situation.

Great free kick.... Well put out by Rooney.

Sounds like there's plenty of Liverpool fans at the game.

    I presume that's who's booing Sterling.

England are a horrific side. Devoid of ideas.
Brady's got a great delivery on him.

Ah come on, aren't the Irish allowed to have a little harmless fun? I imagine a large percentage of the Irish crowd are either Liverpool or Man Utd fans and both sets of supporters are going to boo him. A little bit of fun is all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,609 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

So you're allowed to give your opinion but he isn't...right.

Did you read what he said?

He said - among other things - "that he's a firm believer in players playing for the country of their birth". Did that apply to John Barnes when he played for England? Does it apply to England cricket international players like Eoin Morgan or Kevin Pietersen? He doesn't know what he's talking about, he should've said nothing about it.

Jesus that Sterling booing is even more embarrassing than anyone booing GSTQ

Nope. And they're getting more audible now as more people join in.

It's only a bit of fun. A good day out for the family. And it's good that Dublin aren't playing today as well so they can make a proper day of it.
