Will the roads be resurfaced after all the pipe laying?

    Hi all,

Firstly this is not a IW bashing thread, that's another story altogether... I just was wondering if anyone knows whether all the roads that have been dug up to lay the new water mains will be resurfaced back to normal once the whole project is complete? I ask because i have noticed (Dunmore road/ Newtown etc..) that the tarmac is just lashed on with no real purpose... I ride a motorcycle and really notice a difference on my journey. I know in some countries that if the contracted company do not restore the road to a standard either the same or better than before they started work, they are fined and it can delay future permits they apply for, do we have a similar system here that would see the road being fixed? or is it done and dusted now and we just have to accept it as is?

    Cheers

    H

Of course they wont, the roads will be left as they are.

If all the motor tax money hasn't already been diverted to Irish Water....then yes

normal system is for whoever is doing the work (IW, ESB, Gas etc) completes it to a rough finish and then specialist road firm does the final finish. Sometimes, as most piping run alongside together, otehr companies will use the opportunity to do work as well rather than new surface going in and then digging up again.

Or else wait to see if water will piss into their systems

Best practise is to temporary reinstate , leave for at least three weeks, traffic compacts and another specialist crew come back and cut edges , pour liquid tar on edges and re tarmac.
In fairness to the IW crews they are doing this to a very high standard.

It might be an idea for them to turn off the traffic lights & just assume a

roundabout layout until the work is completed?
