Oul Jackeen here with free travel, what would be the best way of doing this.

Bus into town and 46A out? is luas or dart an option.

Alternatively 145 from directly outside Heuston to any stop from between D'Olier Street and Foxrock Church, and then switch to the 46a to Deansgrange crossroads.

Luas and Dart don't go near Deansgrange, what lxflyer said above is the best option

    Yes I am.

He has a pass so it costs no more, and it would be faster.

Why go on an unnecessary tour of the NCR and Phibsborough?

Luas to Abbey, 46A from O'Connell St.

thanks lads spoilt for choice here, think I'll run with the 145 and hop off at Donnybrook and then catch a 46A:)

The 145 - 46a option involves the least amount of walking, and both services are very regular. But if the OP doesn't mind a bit of a walk the 46a is only 1 bus but you would'nt save any time, if anything it is a longer trip

Would it be possible by bus to get from Heusten station to Deansgrange and back again in 2hrs and even get a bite to eat as well. Getting the 145 and 46A

Not a hope. Not if you are getting 4 buses. If there was one waiting for you at each and every stop, you may be able to do it. But the odds of your not having to wait for any of the buses are pretty much zero.

You are looking at a journey time of 60 minutes each way, including the walk to/from the cemetery.

too right and that is without factoring in roadwork delays.

See its something to do with the new luas line, which would be quicker option next time

    1. Luas to abbey then 46a
    2. 46a from Infirmary Road

    Option 3 - 145 and 46a

Doesn't make any difference, they both go via nassau street, and return down Dawson st, there must be some alternative so as to avoid that area.

Not a chance. Get a sandwich and eat it on the bus/at the bus stop.

Be aware that some bus drivers don't like you eating on the bus and will tell you to put it away or they'll kick you off.

    Not until 2017 no.

You have to travel through that section.

The easiest and fastest option is the 145 and 46a.

Rush hour must be hell around there so, I feel your pain:D

When at the Luas at Heusten there were two men dressed in a black in what looked like combat gear and baseball caps. Letters something like STI were written on them, they were hanging around and chatting to each other but they looked like some kind of security, they were too clean looking to be workers.

Do they patrol the luas or what.

It moves reasonably ok - the only pinch point is Dawson Street.

They are LUAS security guards. Irish Rail also employ similar security guards.
