    Hi All,

I had my preliminary interview in Dublin over 3 weeks ago, haven't got a yes/no answer yet. Is there anyone else left who hasn't hear back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 sjka2013

Still nothing on my end. But I only completed the interview last week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 connmel

I have only heard of people getting rejection emails (yesterday). Haven't heard of anyone getting a successful one - I'm hoping no news is good news!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,908 ✭✭✭mozattack

How did you find out how you scored on application. I have a feeling you'd be much better going in at AO level.

I am AO, this was for AP. I asked for the results that's how I know.

I believe this is true, rejections issued first so fingers crossed for you

I've applied for this role, I'm aca with 3 years pqe and if im successful I would have I would be taking a 50% pay cut. Would it be stupid of me to proceed further in this process if chances of promotion etc are so limited?

I am AO and took a 24k pay cut but I way prefer work here than in practice. From EO to HEO is certainly plausible for you but the recruitment system is so haphazard it can't be relied upon. There is no major incentive to excel, really believed that, merely just meander along and keep applying. How I do in terms of yield, projects etc in comparison to others doesnt seem to matter.

If you are Dublin based the promotion chances are higher as those positions are harder to fill.

    Really Emer - Dublin candidates?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 emer28

Yes, I think it depends on the board you had

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Elaine24

Thanks for replying. I think I would enjoy the work. Jst not sure I cannot afford the pay cut!

I got invited to full interview in Dublin. Just got e-mail about half hour ago.

Me too, got an email informing me I'm through for a final interview in early November. My preliminary interview was in Dublin. I'm surprised to be called after reading this thread as I would not have an accountancy background - I have qualifications in business and law

Folks, an awful lot of this chat is not relevant to this thread for EO Revenue Audit and Compliance. There are threads for AO Revenue (closed back in early summer 2015) and also for general Open AO. And for the AP panels. Can people do some research on the other threads before posting. Another poster has pointed this out already here. Yes, its backseat modding. I apologise. But its a really messy thread.

I have received notification of a second interview. Delighted.

AO is a civil service wide competition closing at midnight tonight. A straightforward application form that does not required competency examples, so you should be able to get in completed fairly quickly. Its on publicjobs.ie under graduate positions (but is open to non-grads too)

AO Revenue Tax Audit and Compliance closed in May or earlier. It is documented on another thread. The Open AO competition, if you were successful, and succeeded in applying before midnight last night, could see you in any department. Not likely Revenue, although perhaps for the more mainstream admin roles. Which could be a waste of your accountancy accreditation.

Take a look at other threads in the Work & Jobs forum. These panels are coming up yearly now.

With regards to the diploma. Is the course only in Dublin? Is it full-time? Are there exemptions? Will there be positions in limerick?

It was relevant to the thread!. Someone asked about promotion chances and I gave first hand experience. If you think someones questions re promotion is not relevant to the thread that's your unfortunate standpoint.

It is like saying that mentioning Dublin for interviews relates to geography. Hmmm

No, my unfortunate standpoint is that post 156 (stemming from messy posting from 140-146) is distracting from the point of the thread. Promotional prospects is one discussion, the querying of scoring from an AP panel is completely distracting. And unfortunate for you also.

I follow a number of these threads, as I am in a number of the competitions, and, like others, I would prefer to check relevant updates. Rather than irrelevant.

I'd say ur right craic altogether.
Anyway, for anyone still unsure about the Dublin interviews, I had my prelim on the 5th and got an email on the 17th to say the final interview is early November.
    Best of luck...

Best of luck with your interview too. I would say the craic will be something they are looking for alright. You have the edge

Shhh, this person obviously is a mod on the thread. Oh, look they are not. Maybe they are just an important person (in their own head)

I had my final interview yesterday. It was very much based on the form but it was tough enough. Does anyone know when we will be notified of the results of the final interview? ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 sjka2013

Best of luck. Was it much tougher than initial interview?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 emer28

Are the board asking questions on the example given in the Drive and commitment section or is that competency assessed throughout the 35 min interview.

Last day of interviews is Friday 13th Nov so I'm guessing end of following week or round that?

Do you know the number of people who made it to the final interview and the number of jobs that could be available.

Does anyone know if they asked much technical tax questions in the interview. Have studied tax a good bit before but its not fresh in the head. The definitions for the competencies are quite specific I envisage this interview being quite taxing. Doing a lot of swatting for this really think the job would suit.

It was stated earlier in the thread by hana18 that the last interviews are on the 13th November.

Did the interview yesterday, god it was tough, was impressed with the panel though, very professional and knowledgeable.

It's way more likely that you'll be offered one in Dublin.

It probably wouldn't be useful to you to bring up at the interview that you'd like to go somewhere else. It's not something the interviewers will be able to help with.

If you've gotten a message which had someones name on it, give publicjobs a ring and ask for that person. Explain your situation to them. They may (or may not) be able to help. Better to get in touch though, they won't be trying to help you if they don't know you want somewhere other than Dublin.

Hi Elaine all interviews are in Dublin. There will be a panel formed from successful candidates and positions will be offered in order of merit. The location of the job will depend on where the vacancies are nationwide

Only all interviews are not in Dublin...

It depends where you did your prelim interview, I dont think Dublin prelims have been notified yet.
Galway have commenced final interviews already and Limerick are commencing next week.

I'm basing my theory of nationwide final interviews on posts like this.

That post relates to being notified on whether you were successful for final interviews. Based on where you did your preliminary, notifications were issued at different times

Is this info definitely correct for this specific competition? I'm aware that panels are often employed in the CS but I assumed the final interview here would be pass fail as I assumed they would take a number of new recruits seeing as they have to run a diploma course for them?

    Folks,

I am just wondering does anyone have a link to the information booklet for this campaign,

I am aware certain criteria was required for these posts but this criteria changed just before the closing date of 18/9/15.

I am just wondering does anyone have a copy of what was the up dated criteria for these jobs?

    Thanks

I had my interview this week, the interview board were approachable but I found it tough going. Discussing the competencies was fine but, unsurprisingly, there was a lot of emphasis on tax and compliance. I wouldn't have an accounting background so I had researched Revenue and their work but it didn't feel like I knew enough to give them the answers they were looking for. As I said in an earlier post I was surprised to make it through to the second interview given my lack of relevant experience but I say this will be as far as I go!

I was the same. Found the interview board very pleasant but interview was tough, I struggled somewhat with the technical questions even though I had studied more for this interview than I've ever done for any interview before. Although in fairness without the experience of working in this area and without an accounting background I don't think they expect you to know everything and therefore will struggle with these types of questions. I have more of an analysis & project management background so I'm hoping my experience here will make up for the lack of other relevant experience. At the end of the day you'll be trained and educated from scratch should you be selected so I wouldn't give up hope yet, at least I haven't and if I pass it will be by a minimal margin I would think, best of luck anyway!

What kind of technical questions did they ask?

The main ones that stand out that I can remember and I probably didn't do great on were in relation to dealing with uncooperative and aggressive clients. Also the I had a hypothetical question around how you would approach a situation where a clients records/accounts have been destroyed or lost, and then how you'd go about recreating those accounts. They pushed the aggressive clients question a couple of times around different scenarios

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 294 ✭✭hollymartins

I can not recall specific questions but spriggyb's post above did remind me that I was asked something similar, how would I handle visiting a business on my own where the business owner may find my presence an inconvenience and how would I deal with confrontation. I would have experience in dealing with people who may be quite defensive so I was able to use it as a reference. I think I've blocked out the other questions I was asked as my answers were far from exemplary :)

Will there be allowances paid to staff working in these roles on top of the normal salary? I presume you would be entitled to T&S at least if travelling off site to tax audit companys, individual?
