My Apple Music works perfectly on my computer, but on my iPhone it messes up the artwork.

So many conflicting theories on the internet - is there a way to fix it or is it just one of those things?

I have the artwork problem on a few albums as well. I fix it by re-adding the artwork to the metadata of all the songs in the album.

    - I go to the album on iTunes on my Mac where the artwork is correct
    - Select all the songs
    - Get info > artwork
    - Click the artwork and copy it, then delete it, then paste it back
    - click save

The correct artwork will eventually show up on your other devices.

Yes, because it puts you through to Apple Music. Also will work on an iOS device.

I didn't work initially. I had to disable auto renew, and enable/disable Apple Music again to get it to pick it up.

Can someone please help me, I'm going around in circles trying to use iTunes and Apple Music.

I want to manually manage my iPhone, I don't want to synch anything. I like to download podcasts not through iTunes and I want to download music from Apple Music onto my iPhone to listen offline.

However it seems I cannot do both of these things at the same time. If I want to listen to music offline on my iPhone, I have to firstly download it to either my laptop & transfer to my iPhone or download it on the device. Thats fine but if I then try to copy music I ripped from a CD or podcasts that I downloaded I can't transfer them to my iPhone as I have iCloud Music Library enabled. If I disable this I can then transfer what I want over but I loose all my Apple Music downloads and I have to download them all over again.

What is the best way to do what I want to do without loosing all my music and my mind?!

To use Apple Music for offline listening you have to have iCloud Music Library enabled.

If you want to use the old iTunes method of manually managing the music on your iPhone then Apple Music is not for you. The main selling point of the service is to eliminate the need for manually managing your music via USB transfer. iCloud Music Library gives you streaming and (and if you choose) offline access to you whole library from every device. So your whole library will be accessible from your iPhone and you can choose what to make available for offline listening.

Thanks do even if I synch everything can't download podcasts and have Apple music on my iPhone?
Its incredibly restrictive, I've paid a lot for my iPhone and for the subscription but I can't get the benefits of Apple Music and manually managing my device.

Why do you need to manually manage your music via USB? What's wrong with using iCloud Music Library? Surely it's easier than hooking your iPhone up to your computer every time you want to add a track to your iPhone. If it's the case that you don't want to see to your whole library there's an option to show only downloaded music.

I'd say a solid 70% of the stuff I've searched for in the past two days is no longer available on Apple music. Among these were tracks that were definitely there before. A lot of albums that I did find (that were fully available) now have only a couple of tracks. Has there been a major cull in the number of tracks in the recent past. Really annoying.

First two searches this morning. Flight of the conchords self titled album and Porno For Pyros Hard charger. Neither there now. I'm guessing a lot of the stuff I'm looking for is Warner's. That's a goodbye to the family plan for me.

Warners catalogue is still there. I guess the odd album will go missing. Like when Radiohead's catalogue changed over to XL everything disappeared from all the streaming services and then came back.

Definitely a large percentage of what I'm missing is from Warners. e.g FoTC and Janes Addiction both under WMG labels. I listen to a lot of soundtracks and as you might imagine WMG have more than their share of these. Anyways these are all on Spotify. Just joined thanks to the 99cent offer.

The reason I gave up Google Play music is that I assumed Apple would have the clout to maintain their deals and not suffer some ongoing Netflix type bermuda triangle shenanigans. I might have persisted if it wasn't for Apple's appalling interface. I know they've a overhaul coming, but I've seen nothing from Apple over the past 2 years to suggest they possess the chops to execute on a decent UI redesign.

Weird. I can't find anything online about certain labels disappearing from Apple Music or deals expiring or anything that. I'd say most of this stuff will pop back up eventually. It wouldn't surprise me if it's isolated to the Ireland/UK catalogue.

Netflix is a different situation. They are basically a streaming cable network. In a few years there will probably be very little licensed content in their catalogue and what will be there won't be for long. Exclusive binge watching shows is where all they money is in video streaming. Film streaming doesn't have much of a future that I can see.

Surely streaming is the future of it all?

As a means to rent films, yes, but I think it's a long way away. The technology is there but the will isn't. What we have at the moment is just a more convenient version of DVR. It's in no way an alternative to buying or even traditional video store renting and that's only going to become more apparent. And even when proper film streaming does get here I think physical media will remain the best way to own films due to DRM. Digital ownership, of music included, seems like it's going by the wayside.

So you are saying the future of film renting is streaming but that the future of film purchasing and owning is not streaming?

Basically. Streaming may replace owning for many people, though.

My son has all Game of Thrones box sets but now watches them off an android box he picked up. Teenagers are becoming more and more ambivalent about illegal viewing. It's now the norm to download or stream episodes of GOT etc first thing on Monday mornings.

A lot of people do this. But if there was a legitimate way of watching GOT in the UK/Ireland that wasn't restrictive and designed to force people into Sky contracts, they'd probably use it.

So a bright enough future :)

I love streaming for music. I dislike whatever convoluted contracts make only certain songs on albums available. It's not even mixed albums. I had a Hans Zimmer score that had some tracks not available.

Is anyone else having Apple Music caching issues? I got warnings saying I only have 300mb of space left on my device. I have a 16gb model (so 11.9gb of free space)

I counted up all my apps, and they total 2633mb. That still leaves 8-9gb of usable space, so I was curious.

I did the iTunes video trick to clear cache (ie downloading a video that you don't have enough space for multiple times), and lo and behold, my free space jumped to to 7gb after doing that 3 times! Incidentally, my apps stayed more or less the same, dropping to 2506.

I do use Apple Music a good bit, probably close to 12 hours a day between having in on in work and at night, so it's obviously not doing a very good job of clearing down songs that I'm finished with. On this note, I should say I stream everything, I don't save anything for offline use (mainly as this keeps happening with the space thing).

7gb is a lot of music, close to about 40 hours worth of streaming, so it's obviously not clearing it down.

One solution I've seen is to turn off iCloud Music Library and enable it again, but that's just annoying. I shouldn't have to watch my data constantly.

It'll automatically clear the cache itself once the storage is full and that space is needed. That's what you are making it do prematurely when you download a large file. It doesn't do it earlier in case you play those songs again and to save data etc.

However, it probably should be clearing the music cache before giving you the first low space warning. I'd imagine Apple will tweak that in a future update.

I understand the concepts of it, but it should be doing it a lot sooner. 7gb of cached music seems a tad excessive - 1 to 2gb should be more than enough.

I just took the plunge and subscribed and while I haven't lost any music, the vast majority of the songs in my playlists have been discarded. I just hit subscribe and didn't touch the settings. Is there any way I can get all the songs back into the playlists or am I going to have to do it all manually again. They are all still on my phone (haven't synched since subscribing) but it will be a major pain to have to do it this way.

EDIT - Managed to export the playlists from the iPhone to the mac and then imported them into iTunes so all's good now. But what setting do I have wrong to prevent this from happening again?

Streaming is OK. You do come across stuff that isn't available to stream which can be a bit annoying. I still like to own music, even if it is just a file.

I buy albums every now and then as I like to have something somewhat tangible. I do subscribe to Spotify also. Waiting to see what Apple has in store for Music at WWDC on Monday.

    Lads,

Is there a way for music to only display music that's actually on the device? (Rather than available to download via the cloud)

    Cheers

    Yep.

My Music > "Artists/Albums" dropdown menu > Only downloaded music.

  • Registered Users Posts: 593 ✭✭✭iniall

Apple Music keeps deleting one song (that I know of) from my phone. I initially listened to it via Apple Music, but I wanted to burn it onto a CD, so I bought it on iTunes. So I own it. This has happened before and I've been able to recover it, but this time it seems to have vanished from Apple's servers as well as my phone. What to do? Apple appears to have stolen my song...!
