I have a box that is making dark scenes darker for some reason.

It's definitely not a setting on the TV.

Anyone know what setting could be doing this?

It's some kind of autodimming for every night/dark scene.

It seems that Kodi on the Xbox one isn't so far away, massive news if so as there will be no need for dodgy Chinese Android boxes for alot of people.

Microsoft will hardly allow illegal streaming on their devices?

I wouldn't get too excited, you can get similar apps like Plex and Emby on the Xbox but they don't work very well I'm afraid.... :(

However, anything that gets people away from dodgy cheap boxes can't be too bad! ;)

Don't know anything about illegal streaming.

The Kodi app itself is available in the Play Store so I'd imagine there would be no issues.

Hopefully it does come to fruition as I have a hardly used Xbox one s here I could put to good use.

Kodi isnt illegal and its already available on the windows store.
A version of Kodi built for Xbox would be very handy and should have good performance.

I'm aware of that, but the whole planet, including Microsoft, knows what it's truly being used for. I find it odd they'd open themselves to these potential problems

Kodi originated from the original Xbox.

    XBMC = X-Box Media Centre

It was not intended to correct or point out to you. It was more just a statement. I just saw people talking about the two and just wrote it.. :)

I know that there is a way to connect directly to Kodi via the Xbox One console using a RPi, but i have never tried it. I guess it would probably work for a branded device too. Guessing though, as i have never looked into it.

Need a quick buy before Christmas as setting up another tv in another room.
What is the general recommendation in 4k/ uhd android unit that people are buying?

In my opinion currently the best Android devices for this ,are :

Nvidia Shind TV = Still the number 1 streaming device by a long margin

Mi Box = A cheaper but similar experience to the Shield (no LAN connection included)

Minix Boxes = Not as good as the two above but a variety of boxes and well supported.

They'd be my top three for Android Devices...There are plenty of cheaper boxes and clones out there. Some can be good and others can be just pure junk(badly built, crap components,no support).

FWIR, it was the power adapter that failed, which is common with Chinese units.

I bought one and it is flying.
As far as i am aware it was the power supplies failed and not the boxes.

Try a different HDMI cable and a different HDMI port.

Just in case anyone is looking for them.

Just an update on these, ran a speed test in the main house and got 14mbps. tried the WiFi in the new rooms, and couldn't pick anything up. Set up the plugs and was able to get 14mbps again in the new rooms.
I presumed a little speed would have been lost but was pleasantly surprised to see pretty much the same speeds with them.

Great product and well worth the €50

It's been mentioned before, but just a reminder, that anyone who has their broadband with Eir can claim a free set of homeplugs from them. It saves you some cash.... ;)
