    Thanks, user2011

Would it make sense to blame the upgrade?

It definitely isnt the cables i am using or my amplifier because the tv sound is doing the same thing when i bypass my amp.

If the MXIII is running KitKat 4.4 then Krypton shouldn't run at all, except under the Mygica workaround for 17.3. Trying to run 17.6 is probably a bridge too far for the OS & S812 hardware:
Kodi 17.0 is now standards-compliant with Android’s official Audio API and requires Android 5.0 or higher as the minimum version. DTS-HD, DTS-X, Dolby TrueHD, and Dolby ATMOS passthrough are now supported on devices that implement AudioTrack v23 or higher. Devices with firmware that does not follow this standard will not support passthrough. Support for 4K video and output and improvements to refresh rate switching and HEVC, VC-1 / WMV 9, and VP9 playback on supported hardware are the icing on the cake.

It is a Beelink mxmiii whayever the mimimimi of about 1 year old.
I might have the exact name wrong.

High enough Android for Krypton in any case

    Edit: this one)

Sound has gone tits ups on my beelink mxmiii since upgrading to Kodi 17.6
Starts ok most of the time but then when going to a new episode of anything, the sound starts to crackle, is distorted. Even just browsing in Kodi, you hear there is something just not right.
Reboot usually solves it and i had it "outside" Kodi as well, once or 2x.

There is no way to downgrade kodi and to keep the add-ons installed?

Cause no matter how much i like using Kodi, configuring it back to how i had it, isnt something i do enjoy.

It is very late. I have not read all of the posts after, but have you tried SPMC?
Try uninstalling Kodi and install SPMC, either from the Play store or here - http://spmc.semperpax.com/

SPMC is targeted specifically at Android devices.
Koying is the name of the developer that used to be the maintainer of Kodi for Android. Koying left, and nobody has (tmk) filled that position for Kodi.
The logo may not be appreciated, but SPMC should be better.
FTMC is not a fork worth looking at.

I have tried spmc in the past and ... wouldnt be fair to say i didnt like it because it was more a matter of... wtf do i do now? and no time to look into it more so got rid of it.

As for my issue now, i am not sure whether it is box related or the kodi upgrade.
And the easiest way to figure that out is to go back to the kodi version that worked for me.
And i was just wondering if there was an easy way to do so.

The back up\restore back up sounds like an idea but at the other hand, i just might wipe the box and start from scratch. Cause when i read the back up route, it isnt that much less work compared to a fresh install. I dont have a million add-ons loaded anyway.

Android 6.0 going by that link.
Have you tried the wireless update option?

OTA never really worked for me. Box got an update one way or the other in the year i have it.
And for whatever reason, i didnt get wifi to work last night

Back to factory defaults it is, i fear but that ll be a weekend jobby.

You should be able to install SPMC alongside Kodi and they don't conflict with each other. If you need to downgrade Kodi 17+ to 16 or so,just keep a copy of your .Kodi folder(probably explained in the utube video linked above my post) .
Then just uninstall K 17 and install K 16 and copy your .kodi folder back.
You'll always have a handy backup of your current K 17 setup, with the .kodi folder.

Was thinking about the time consuming comment I made. Mine was near 1GB those pre build ones when I was starting out with android boxes lol. Your welcome Infor ;) fingers crossed it works.

I'm a bit confused by this comment because SPMC is a specifically designed for android version of Kodi and works exactly the same way (except better as it's tailored for android devices).....

Personally, I've used both SPMC and FTMC and they were both great. However, I use FTMC these days because it is more compatible with the new(er) add ons.

Not 1 issue all night with the sound so it seems to have done the trick

I really like these little boxes byt i am just not a fan of android. I installed spmc just to ahe a look but was also still getting around kodi.
Old dog as i am, didnt really want to learn 2 new tricks in 1 go.
It is more than likely just my problem.

I am not trying to push it on you (I swear :D)

You could install the Estuary skin on SPMC and it would look the same as Kodi (so you woud not have to learn anything new).

SPMC is effectively a 'lite' Kodi with some tweaks to enhance its performance on Android.
    Some light reading https://flixed.io/what-is-spmc/

There are now many forks, but unfortunately the others often focus on the most popular addons and leave some others with issues. Many underground addons have some issues in other forks and some paid addons do also.
I have not yet had any issues with SPMC.

You like the boxes but you don't like android, yet all these boxes are android boxes!

You like Kodi but you don't like SPMC, yet SPMC is exactly the same as Kodi except is designed specifically for android boxes.

That makes absolutely no sense!! I'm really confused now.... :pac::pac::pac:

    Ok....

I like what you can do with those boxes, not so much the operating system.
I never had an android phone so my "first" experience with android is on one of these boxes instead of anything with a touch screen.
Think that contributes quite a bit to my dislike of android.

I never really looked into SPMC although i installed it once. But at the same time i was also still "learning" Kodi.
So me getting to know Kodi and then my first look of SPMC i just decided for: First get to know this Kodi thing properly then look again.
And once i had Kodi going the way i wanted, i saw no reason to look at SPMC again.

Hope that takes you confusion away... :p

Have to add, altough i am using the box a lot, i have maybe 3 addons installed. (the copy/paste of the .kodi folder went a lot quicker than that in the video posted above....)

The reason i bought them (due to some out of stock, then all of a sudden in stock issues i ended up with 2) a year ago was because of my good old WDTV not being able to properly handle the H265 format/codec and me starting to like it.
So i needed a new media player. Due to the age of my TV and AV-receiver one of the very few things i could use was a android box. I needed the SPDIF

All i do with Kodi after i bought it, is basically just a bonus although i have to say it also kind of replaced the things i was doing with my WDTV

Returning it not worth the hassle - you might end up paying customs on the replacement.

As others have said it could be the power supply - H96 power supplies failed on me.

Before you go off spending a 10er to buy a new power supply, it might be worth running a test to see if the box still works.

You should be able boot the box by putting a usb cable (male to male) in one of the box's usb ports. You will also need to beg/steal/borrow a 2 amp usb charger - tablets often have 2 amp usb chargers.

If the box boots - then you will need a replacement power supply that has a center positive tip. (I think the box issues with a 5v/2.5 amp power supply - but these are harder to come by and 5v/2amp may be all it needs.)

If you are not sure about that then you could simply run it with usb and two amp charger. Or try one of these if you have one https://www.aldi.ie/usb-surge-protected-power-block/p/071816080618100

I got a h96 from bangood today and not a kick out of it.i am mad as hell.i will try the tests you said but why would you say its not worth returning it?ill loose 68 euro if i dont.im curious why you'd say that.

I find Banggood excellent whenever i have had issues. They ask you to send a video of it not working and they will usually offer a refund or a replacement. I find them as good as Amazon tbh,

Yours as mentioned, may be a dodgy plug. The box may be fine. I think they may also give the option of fast tracking a plug to you if that is a suspected issue.

Could be worth looking at X96 2G/16G box on newtech.co.uk for £37

I've set up both for friends and for general use ( those apps ;) ) I didn't notice any real difference. Perhaps with certain games the difference would be there but seeing as 99.9% are used as streaming devices then go with whatever suits your budget.

That is probably the best answer.

There is obviously a quality of build difference (as with anything). Some boxes have better hardware and firmware, but they may carry the same S912/S905 chip that another box will carry.
For example a cheap box with S912 claiming to be brand 'X' from Gearbest, is unlikely to be as good as a legit S905X box from a decent supplier for overall quality and longevity.

(yes, that was a cheap dig at Gearbest, and maybe it may make some people more aware).

Edited. There is more to it than just that, but could not write it all down.
