    Interested in studying science next year if I get my points hopefully, would love to specialise in something like Genetics/Neuroscience/Microbiology (Definitely biology based!) and I know I will need to do Chemistry for these subjects too, I haven't done Chemistry for my LC, just Biology and I'm worried I'm going to find it really difficult next year. Has anyone had any experience with this? I like studying and stuff but I'm scared a lot of people will be way ahead having done Chem for leaving cert.

    If you go to UCD and don't have LC chemistry you can take an introductory chemistry module which assumes no prior knowledge of chemistry and then by christmas you'll be at the same level as those who took it for the leaving cert. After 1st year you wont have to do any more 'pure' chemistry unless you choose to, and the chemistry involved in the biology subjects is easy enough to understand if you understand basic chemistry concepts. Hope this helps :)

    Also a lot of leaving cert chemistry is irrelevant if you're considering biology so don't worry about being behind. Lots of people in my year didn't do it and were at no disadvantage.

    Im not in General Science but Im in Biomedical Science in UCD and I had no experience with chemistry.
    I took Introductory Chemistry which is taught by Mike Casey, who, imo, is a brilliant lecturer as he has very easy to understand lecture notes. The exam is easy to do well in and the labs are run well :)
    But from what I can tell, the more you specialise in biology the less relevant chemistry will become so I wouldnt worry about it :)

    I did introduction to chemistry last year Dr. Mike Casey is an absolute legend he is great for explaining everything that goes on and making it simple to understand (I was at advantage having studied Leaving Cert Chemistry before). Also with this module you get these classes called PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) classes these are classes where second year and third year students will help you understand the problems. The main thing to know is they will not teach you the answers like you get in Secondary School they want you to understand everything. The module also is super well graded with continuous assessment. Overall if you don't have chemistry do Intro Chem and you would really get a nice good base in Chemistry that you will need.
