Anyone know what this weird fan is?

    Recently moved into a new house and discovered this above a suspended ceiling.

    What is and what was it used for? Can it be removed? It is on the wall just below the ceiling. It was pointing at an external wall so I think it may have been an old extractor fan?

    The house was built in the 50s and it looks like it could be there from then.

    No idea what that was used for.
    I would certainly remove it though.
