    Marc Stein ✔@ESPNSteinLine
The Josh Smith-to-the-Clippers chatter is indeed true. They will be formally signing him shortly
    10:18 PM - 16 Jul 2015

Wow, the Clippers will have the biggest collection of tools in league history.

Haha delighted for them I really dislike the Clippers

Wow, the Clippers will have the biggest collection of tools in league history.

The question for me is who is the bigger tool on that team right now? Given his level of talent v toolness I'm going with Austin Rivers. :D

Ty Lawson to Houston for Kostas, Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey, Nick Johnson and a protected first to Denver.

Read there that Houston have a coach who specialises in helping players with off court problems so might be a good fit, Houston might make out like bandits here if he can get his shìt together

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,833 ✭✭✭NufcNavan

I have no idea how they should be expected to stop anyone with a backcourt of Lawson and harden...they should petition the NBA to add a 6th defender...

Strange move on Houston's part....no doubt D12's blocks numbers will increase next year though. :D

Woj stays at Yahoo too. Many people thought Sports Illustrated had a good chance of landing him but apparently the Yahoo CEO got involved and essentially offered him the keys to their basketball coverage.

I wouldn't rate Woj as a thinker on the game. He's a must follow because he is usually the guy who breaks stories, but I never thought much of him as a long form writer. His persistent LeBron bashing and quite obvious biases' really hinder his writing imo. I actually created a thread on the Simmons move

Yeah she's right to do it too. I'd imagine the traffic he brings is phenomenal. Above everyone else, when he tweets news and a link to a story, the league listens.

I'don't agree with you there. He tends to let his personal beef with people shape his articles

Yeah but he attracts attention doesn't he? She doesn't really mind as long as Yahoo is getting some attention and he's still the number one guy for breaking stories. Each of his breaking news tweets is usually started by :"Yahoo sources learn that", or something along those lines. That's what they pay for.

Some alternate jerseys for next season leaked, wouldn't normally care too much about this, but I notice at the bottom a throwback Bulls fans have been clamouring for for years:

    apple_crop_north.jpg?w=800&h=600&q=75

Don't think it's been used since the 80s, but you still see fans wearing it, people love that jersey.

I thought I'd seen pretty much everything on Jordan but somehow missed this until now. Worth a look if you haven't seen it. The good part is from around the 9minute mark onwards:

Whoops I meant to say I agree with you, don't know how the 'don't' got in there. Was also aimed at buyer95

Interesting enough read from ESPN - The Phil Files, which is broken down into a number of different parts detailing Jackson's first season with the Knicks:

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13135724/phil-files-part-1-jackson-opens-knicks-training-camp

You'll find all the other parts easily enough on that website too.

Cool look back at LeBron's debut:

    http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/25257483/watch-looking-back-at-lebron-james-2003-25-point-debut
•You see a lot of the same mannerisms. He still does the blowing into his hands one at a time thing. The way he dunks is the way he dunks now. It's cool to see how he's still the same guy, even 12 years later.

•His gait seems much longer. Part of that is how much muscle he seems to have added, but here's he's like a gazelle, bounding up court, vs. just a few years later when he looks like the freight train we've come to know him as. Some notes on this video, time log for the video itself, not game-time.

•0:24 seconds: He peels off the curl and gets a spot-up jumper. He no longer gets those, hardly ever, because the defense is going to jump every time to close that off. You'll notice a lot of differences in the way the Kings guard him as a rookie vs. the kind of respect he draws now.

•00:32 seconds: Again, the defense gets hung up and dares him to make them pay. You can tell Vlade Divac was like "I'm not chasing this 18-year-old out for a fadeaway jumper." It's also really crazy how wet James' jumper was in this game, considering that would be his biggest limitation for almost a decade. He shot 4-of-9 on mid-range shots in this game. Set the bar kind of high on multiple levels.

•1:11: You see how the Kings don't step up to meet him coming up the floor? Nowadays he gets tagged at the arc and if he gets to the free throw line, the big is always looking to take the charge on him. Ironically, Vlade didn't do enough in this game to try and flop and draw calls on him.

•1:30: Yup, that looks like LeBron James.

•1:40: Everyone's amazed at James... and the Cavs trail by eight. Man those early Cavs teams were rough, despite Ricky Davis and Carlos Boozer. No really, those guys were considered among his better teammates, along with Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Darius Miles started, for crying out loud. Kings lead

•2:05: Oh, hey, Jim Gray! You spoke to LeBron James one-on-one, huh? Guess what? Won't be your most famous conversation it turns out!

•3:02: Yeah, one might say LeBron's fashion sense has evolved somewhat since he was 19.

•3:27: Oh, the 3-pointer falls, which is cruel since he'll go on to shoot 29 percent from the arc that season and it will be a liability really until 2009.

•3:37: He's so awkward in his first halftime interview! You watch him now and he just runs through the bullet-points in his head. It's like he's reading off a prompter. He's an expert interview subject at this point, but here he's just an awkward teenager trying to sound confident.

•5:02: I understand he's done it a million times but still, that pass! What is that pass?!

•5:45: Interestingly, he goes middle off that left-side ISO. Nowadays, he usually goes left.

Overall, you can see the greatness coming. It's also fun listening to the announcers freak out about him.

More than slightly off topic, but adidas have reportedly offered James Harden a $200m shoe deal. That's more than Rose!

The problem I see with these shoes though is that they'll only work on offence.........:D

Nets opening schedule is rough. 11 away games in the first 17 including Boston, Oklahoma, Golden State, Cleveland and Atlanta.

    Ouch.

Speaking of 'rough' and 'Nets', check out their back court. Yikes.

I think they should cut down on the amount of games.

No need in any way to play 80+ times and all that comes with it.

Like the Cavs there are down for opening night and the following night.

Teams cant give it their all on those back to backs and 4/5 in a week stretches so it just devalues the quality.

You'd probably get more play off style games if they played max twice a week with more on the line for every game.

True, but it's all about the money. 41 home games = a hell of a lot of money at the turnstiles and ancillary revenues from food, drink (anyone who's paid $12+ for one beer at various NBA stadia will attest to that), t-shirts, merchandise etc. Then you have the league TV deal which is the richest in NBA history and allows teams to pay the players stupid money. That doesn't happen unless you have games every night to show on tv....simple as. It's not going to change any time soon.

You think any of the parties involved want less money? The owners? No. The Teams? No. The League? No. The players? Hell no.

    No I get it.

Less games means less wages and there's too many vested interests.

But for the non attending fan and the overall state of the game a shorter season would certainly lead to a better product.
