Lighting is probably the least of your esc costs, for instance ,if you had five old filament lightbulbs in your house at 60 watts a piece,that is only 300 watts compared to a kettle=1000 watt,cooker=3000 watt,microwave =800 watts and so on.changing those 5 bulbs to led at 15 watts is now 60 watts,

A bit of a saving but nothing compared to what the rest of your appliances are using

If buying led bulbs, buy good quality branded ones, a lot of the cheaper one are absolute rubbish and will not last pissing time

Can we do a calculation of the running costs? Say 5 x 60w filament bulbs vs 5 x15w LEDs. Lights on for say 8 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The "Taste of Dublin" at the weekend was quite the scam. You fork out cash for a ticket to actually enter this food and drink event, then you have to pay for everything you eat or drink apart from some tiny samples. If that wasn't bad enough, you can't actually spend real money at any of the stalls, and instead you need to exchange your Euro for the event "currency". The currency is only available in multiples of five, and you can't change any leftover festival currency back to Euro when you leave! And your ticket doesn't even get you in for the day - you only get in for one 'session', and after a few hours they boot you out to allow the next lot of ticket-holders in.

All that being said, I enjoyed myself at it, but it's definitely an impressive exercise in thoroughly gouging punters.

Are you able to isolate the amount of electricity usage from your lightbulbs on your bill? If not then you can't say everything has remained the same. You're using different devices across your network, with presumably different unit costs of electricity than a few years ago.

IF you're using lights the same amount, but with energy efficient bulbs, you're paying less in electricity for lighting than you were before, that's just a fact.

im not going to go searching for a source but it came from Electrolux.

That was presumably only because new appliances are naturally more efficient than old ones not due to the fact that appliances become less efficient over time. I guess maybe there could be issues to do with wiring dating etc but I doubt how efficient a kettle is changes much over time just how efficient it is relative to products being produced in the future.

Shop around most are still overpriced.

3W bulbs for €1.49 in dealz takes a while to find the normal ones.

Aldi had a pair of 8W's for €5.99 recently , normal bayonet fitting too if you were early.
