I know its early doors but I would like to see a bit more movement transfer wise, Liverpool I think are doing a good job so far in fairness to them. It would be nice to wrap up Cech and get moving on another target as it seems we can only concentrate on one transfer at a time. I think the plan will be if he could get the midfielder that everyone is talking about then he might take his time over a striker and be ready with cash late in the window if something comes up like the Ozil deal. I also have a suspicion that a real left winger might come in. For the DM someone like Carvalho might be ideal as apparently he can also cover CH which would leave us with good strength there along with Mert Kos Gabriel and Chambers.

There have been no big moves yet, players are just finishing holidays, give it some time. The fact we are moving a Cech is enough for

Arteta played 452 minutes in the league last year. I dont think thats someone we should pitch our hopes on imo

Because of injury, he played in the overwhelming majority of league games the previous three seasons, that minutes played statistic is nonsense out of context.

Why do we need a DM when we have Coq and Arteta? We also have Flamini to back up those two. That's 3 players for one position.

    Is this a wind up?

because Arteta and Flamini are past their best?

Probably because aging and injury prone players are not going to win you a league title.
We need to be in a position to go for it from the off this season.
    No more excuses.

I think that in terms of quality, our midfield is kind of obvious these days.

    Coq - Ramsey - Santi - Ozil - Sanchez

Then there's a few other players you don't mind coming in...

    Ox, Walcott, Wilshire...

But then IMO, it's a fairly big drop to Arteta and Flamini.

Arteta used to be hugely important but we've changed how we play now and aren't so reliant on dominating posession and moving the ball side to side.

So really bar the guys we start with, the only decent option for CMF is Wilshire and he's not even that great an option there yet.

If either of Coq or Ramsey got injured ... or even Santi lately ... we lose a huge amount of presence and zip in midfield and I think for all of those players, we have one half backup option in Wilshire

After that it's Flamini and Arteta who can both only play one position. Flamini just isn't good enough anymore and Arteta doesn't suit us anymore.

After all these years of not buying a DM do we think wenger is going to buy one when we have a pretty decent one already

I don't even think wenger wants to use a DM would rather play two box to box midfielders, tried it with wilshere and Ramsey

That's why I think signing Vidal or someone similar is a good shout

He has just bought(or is about to) a 33 year old GK for over £10m so I wouldnt like to prior years.

I think he is showing more ruthlessness and so yes I think he will deliver a DM, if and its a possible if come August Coq is injured or showing nothing like the form then he will leave himself out there again to be criticised

How many teams that use an out and out DM actually have more than one decent one in their squad? Would be surprised if we got another now, going by transfer rumours we haven't been linked to any that I've seen yet either.

In most tight games this year coq was hooked as we went chasing a goal

I can't see wenger giving up another spot in the squad to a specialist position

Another midfielder maybe but def not another DM

And like many said already I don't think we need one

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,985 ✭✭✭Soups123

If Coq turns out to be the real deal or maintains last years form then I dont think we need another but I just dont buy into it yet. I think a lot of last year he played of the adrenaline of the break through would be interested to see how he plays out.

I hope I am wrong because we really need what he does

To be fair to Auclair he doesn't put up tweets as clickbait.

Maybe, but Auclair is a good journalist normally.

Because he doesn't want to commit one way and be wrong because he has no idea whats going on but either way he can point to one halve of the prior tweet to gain credibility. Standard enough procedure for these lads.

May be or may not be...

Anyway I'm in the group who thinks he shouldn't be our priority...our priority should be 20+ goal striker...

I don't think we're the club that can only go for our no.1 priority anymore. No reason why we can't strengthen several areas.

I agree with this. This feels like a really important summer as with the right signing we can really challenge for the title.

We have a decent squad currently, we have a lot of cash it seems so there can be absolutely no excuses next season not to push on.

I think alot of people are missing a trick here, I do want Morgan at our club for one main reason he's a fantastic player and will give us great depth but I also don't want to see him go to one of our main rivals and fixing a problem area they have .....makes sense really just like Mourinho is probably screaming inside at Cech coming to us

Phillipe Auclair is one of the top football writers out there. He doesn't get into transfer rumours in a big way to be fair to him. I'd imagine the French connection would be a big part of him having heard some solid info.

I know it sounds weird but it's kind of like our striker issue.

If you want one player to complete our striking options, then it has to be a world class player who can play with or without Giroud (leaving aside the question of Walcott up front for a minute).

Similarly if you want one player to complete our midfield options, they have to be able to play with or without the Coq.

A Coq is kind of essential to us right now. If he remains the only option for that position bar Flam and Arteta, we're still light.

That's kind of why Schneiderlin makes sense. He could play with the Coq or if Coq was injured, he and Ramsey would be a lot more solid than what we currently have.

But I have no use of all the extra things Wenger sees and I'm undoubtedly wrong.

If we miss out and Schneiderlin then we should move for krychowiak.
    Would honestly prefer anyway.

Speaking of Sanchez the Vidal rumours are picking up again , this time the various sources are saying Alexis is banging on at him to join us ,I'd love Vidal much more than the southampton fella too

That was brilliant by Ospina....making a statement?!

it would be big time no doubt but Schneiderlin would probably a much smarter acquisition for our squad and title chances.

The stuff he's doing tonight is ridiculous, they would be losing by loads if he wasn't in goal.

No extra time in this, so we might even get to see him perform with the pressure of penalties

another good save, haven't seen the first two yet

arteta has been picking up calf injuries now since at least jan 13.

he had 3 of them last season up to november, then surgery on his ankle in jan.
maybe that'll help but calf injury aka old mans injury http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-premiership/saint-victim-of-old-mans-injury/story-e6frf3bu-1111117043219

Hasn't it already been confirmed that he's signing for Barcelona? My bad confused it with a different Vidal (Aleix). He's going to be a great signing for somebody, hopefully us, but I won't believe anything until I see him standing in an Arsenal jersey ;)

These are always wrong I believe.

No reason to delay anything. Tevez deal back to Argetina was completed yesterday just before he played Columbia.

Wenger said at last years World Cup on TV, that he was the best box to box midfielder in the world, and that he was a huge fan...

Depends on whether the Chile manager wants to avoid the world media plaguing some of his well known players about their futures too. Chile esp are hell bent on winning this tournament with them being hosts

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,706 ✭✭✭emmetlego

Agree, any manager would want his players focused on the job at hand, and not any distractions that a club move would invariably bring. Nothing unusual there IMO.

Then I'm sure that Chile would ask players not to deal with transfer issues till the tournament is over.

The idea that Vidal would arrange a move, two clubs would negotiate it, he'd agree personal terms and plan moving to another country but then wouldn't announce it because media attention might distract him is silly.

What's happened is 'Vidal to xxx' stories are no use any more so you run with 'done deal. Vidal to xxx'. Oh yeah but we can't announce it.

    It's all made up clearly.

I mean seriously... 'Vidal has joined a club but we don't know who and it won't be released for a few days'

The most made up sounding thing ever
