Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wenger apologists? When people start giving us reasonable names we'll accept that we've missed out on a striker. In the meantime I'll continue to read lists containing 6 unattainable players, 4 wingers and 2/3 close calls.

    Agree with this.

I 100% agree with the frustrations that we aren't doing enough in the transfer market to kick on (especially regarding a midfielder when we could have at least signed the likes Schneiderlein or Kondogbia realistically).

But I have yet to see anyone come up with any reasonable options for a top class striker without resorting to the above or copping out and saying it Wenger's job. If we sign someone else mediocre people will just give out that we have signed another Welbeck.

The best option as far as I can see would probably be taking a risk on someone like Lacazette continuing to improve or else more of a wing forward (Pedro, Reus, Dyabala maybe)

I don't see why that would take away from the enjoyment of watching the CL matches this season though.

Thats why i want a good group. Bigger teams, the better for me. Might give us a bit of confidence in the league if we were to take a scalp like Barca or Bayern.

I'd prefer to meet one of the favorites in the group stage so we avoid them in the last 16 if we make it. for example if we get a group with Barca then we couldnt face them, Chelsea, Utd or City in the last 16

    Calling it now.

    Arsenal
    Zenit
    Dynamo Kiev
    Wolfsburg

We'll finish second in the group, meet Bayern/Barca in the next round where we will have little or no chance of progressing after the first leg thrashing only to go out and lose on away goals in the second leg.

Scrape Champions League qualification at the end of this season in the league and repeat.

Well why not, it's been happening for 10 years. Prove me wrong.

Yep, loads of things we've been doing repeatedly for 10 years now:

    - Not signing and world class players
    - Not winning any cups
    - Not beating any big teams
    - Selling all our best players

    Etc etc.

I don't know if he's attainable but Marco Verratti would be my first choice. He's the complete midfielder.

With regards to a striker, bid for a Reus, Benzema or Lewandowski and see what happens.

When I hear Wenger say that the clubs are unwilling to sell, that translates to me that we were never interested or he's unwilling to go above his valuation. Football has moved on and the valuation of a player is what the selling team is prepared to accept to let their asset go.

Taking this with a pinch of salt, but Wenger said he is still very much interested in bringing in players.

"I don't know because I am always confident that a last-minute situation or solution is available, because the transfer market is especially moving in the last four or five days.

"At the moment, I cannot promise you that. We work very hard... you know I have a team around me who work day and night to find good solutions.
"But at the moment, we are not close to signing anyone. I am 24 hours available per day, so I am involved in the decision of course."

Maybe we'll all be pleasantly suprised

That right there is the easiest job on the planet. You literally have nothing to do.

Fernando Llorente just went to Sevilla for free  We were interested in him a couple of years ago weren't we?

Yea but he is 3 years older then giroud and not half as mobile. Don't think he has done that well in Italy either

Again will you all just give over with your speculation about who's coming into the club.
    THE IS NOBODY COMING
    - Forget it.

Tayto, you're going to be inconsolable when your reverse jinx doesn't work and we end up singing no-one. Best just to accept there's nobody coming.

That Monaco draw last year aside its probably been about a 5/6 years since we've had a had a handy Group/Knock Out draw.

We should have a handy pot 4 team now as cant get Germans.

    its not a bad draw.

We'll get Wolfsburg. Gent heading to their group.

  • Registered Users Posts: 491 ✭✭flyingoutside

Even more of a chance of a long distance flight as we can't get more Germans too.

Is It just me or do we seem to get Olympiakois every single year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,478 ✭✭✭✭cson

Astana would be a balls, 9hr flight to there. I'd be sending the League Cup team to ****, unlikely we'll finish first.

Absolutely handy draw to qualify from if you ask me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,569 ✭✭✭Nemeses2050

So it's Bayern-Olympiakos- Dinamo Zagreb then

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,192 ✭✭✭Ken Shamrock

How sad Is It that the team who knocked us out last year aren't even In the competition...

Could have been easier, could have been worse both with travel and with difficulty. We would expect to finish 2nd in that group.

I take it back, we actually got a very handy group in the end.

Should be able to finish second and secure that last 16 tie against Barca.

I thought Monaco were unlucky to lose out to Valencia in the qualifiers but it doesn't really bother me, certainly doesn't make me feel sad.

Could have been worse. Bad 1st team but we wouldn't finish first with a shît team anyway
