Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Be interesting to see if we're home or not in the league following the trips to Zagreb and Athens. Probably long away trips with a Saturday morning kick off !

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,758 ✭✭✭RedemptionZ

Decent group. Second place shouldn't be too difficult and first up for grabs of the ball bounces right.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,009 ✭✭✭kronsington

should be getting through that group quite handy lads. maybe get a better draw in the L16 as well. I fer another all too familiar season ahead.

Odd comments from wenger re last minute striker solutions in the transfer windwow.

    Zagreb's about a 2h flight, Munich about 1.5h, Athens about 3.5h.

That's nothing tbh considering it'll all be done in a private chartered jet.

When you consider we could have been going to Russia, Ukraine, Israel or Kazakhstan

You know me too well. I prep Arsene following every loss!

You wouldn't describe coming home on a Thursday morning to have to travel up North 1st thing Saturday as ideal though, would you ! For the supporters if nothing else!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Yep not a bad group and at least they won't be racking up the air miles like Chelsea will be :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,478 ✭✭✭✭cson

Love CL draw day btw (or as they call it in the Spurs and Liverpool threads; Thursday).

Always get the feeling that the season is properly kicking off now.

So pardon my ignorance here but are Dinamo and Olympiacos any good , Obviously on paper there not going to look tough , But as we've found out in the past ...or been found out would be a better would

We have often lost and drew over in Greece against Pana and Olympiakos

Bayern is Bayern thats going to be tough, But maybe not as tough as it would was it a knockout tie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

10 points from the 2 bottom teams and maybe a point against Munich should see us through in second. Nice to get a big team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,478 ✭✭✭✭cson

No they aren't. We should be beating both home and away.

Probably want to be wary of Olympiacos as they beat both Atleti and Juve last year but a lot of their decent players from that team are gone (Afellay, Mitroglu and Santana).

Of course not, but you would except a CL team like ourselves to be able to deal with It considering we've been doing It for like 15 years straight.

As for the fans, If you can afford to go abroad to watch us play and then come back and see us In London well **** ya, ya rich bastard :pac:

We'll finish second for sure that's if we turn up (it's really sad to say it, that we have to worry if the side turn up and are ready to give it a go), we won't be beating Bayern in either games. So its important we get 12 points from the 4 other games. Get second and as you said get knocked out in the last sixteen. I rather we gave the League a go this year, with no signings more then likely not coming in. We can't be fighting over two fronts, the side isn't strong enough.

Bayern delighted with the draw- can't blame them!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,828 ✭✭✭gosplan

If Monaco are out, we should really move for Martial ... Or someone else similar.

Not world class but bags of potential. We won't be shopping in a bracket above that for a few years IMO.

They should be, should be coming out of that group with 18 points.

  • Registered Users Posts: 650 ✭✭✭csallmighty

Going to be a fun group. It will be a big task for Coquelin and the defensive system to get at least 1 or 2 points off Bayern. Im confident that they can get enough points off the other two teams to qualify (most likely 2nd)

Does anyone know when they release the fixtures?

I think we'll beat Bayern in one of the games

Don't know why we couldn't beat Bayern in one leg. Pretty sure last 4 matches against them has been 1 win where we hammered them 2-0, 1 draw and 2 losses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Too early to call it a season defining couple of weeks?

Bayern haven't beaten us at their place since 2005 :pac:

    Nothing to fear.

I'm delighted with the draw playing Bayern at least we have good games to look forward to, think we'll take points off them to in at least one the games.

Dammit that makes too much sense. We can't have that sort of talk around here, it ruins the entertainment value of the thread :D

    Gonna win the league

I love how people use "oil money" as an excuse yet aren't bothering to mention how things have changed since our last title wins.

We have you for that !

(Although I must admit, I'm not actually sure what you mean) - care to expand?

Back then we competed against one team so maybe the "cohesion" argument would make sense. Now there's also "oil money" to compete against.

I don't particularly buy it anyway, we had "cohesion" last season and dropped 2 points and lost to Monaco.

Tim's articles are always fantastic, he talks a lot of sense generally and is very good at analysing things rationally. Whether or not you agree with him, it's hard to disregard his thoughts especially when he provides so much context.
