Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Worst possible draw for Liverpool.

    Worst possible draw for Liverpool.
Sevilla would have been worse imo. Especially with the Sanchez Pizjuan atmosphere. Although Villarreal are much better defensively.

England would get 5 teams in the CL in that permutation. Man City and Liverpool would enter at the play-off stages.
    <snip>
was going to question that, but it seems they re-changed the regulations to allow a max of 5 (was 4 before)

anyhow, Man city are not going to win the champions league so its a moot point to begin with.

    Worst possible draw for Liverpool.

Actually think its the best draw.
Avoid long travel and 2nd leg at home.
Gonna have to play these teams anyway ?

Villarreal are pretty similar in ways to Atletico. Very solid, excellent CM in Bruno & brillant on the counter attack.

Sevilla have got a formidable record at home even if they've been faltering as of late. Their record in the competition is also incredible.

All of that being said, I rate this Villareal side very highly. They've got a lovely balance and the football they produce can border on other-worldly. They're a cracking team with a fantastic head coach in Marcelino.

Ye I backed Bilbao to beat Villarreal when they met 3 times between the league and cup a month or two back. Was frustrating because Bilbao were in such good form, yet ended up drawing with Villareal twice (I think) despite Villarreal being under constant siege for nearly all 3 games. So Villarreal are a very good defensive unit when it's called for. Which is why they are doing so well in the league. Combining a good defense with a brilliant offense.

This could be a harder tie for Liverpool due to the manner in how Villarreal play. I rate Dortmund as a better team to them, but Villarreal will do a better job of starving Liverpool of any possession and will hold up better at the back, and going forward they will simply outplay them. As we saw again last night, anything can happen for Liverpool in a second leg of European competition in Anfield, but if Villarreal hold their composure and do their thing they should win both legs. I'm still reeling from Arsenal knocking out Villarreal in 06, despite Villarreal playing them off the field in the second leg once Riquelme started playing well and then that penalty miss

    Worst possible draw for Liverpool.
An absolute nightmare draw for us - I agree, we have very little chance of progressing.

Who cares who we get, all of those teams present a challlenge, Ukraine is a hell of a place to get a result, as is Seville and Villareal are a super solid team.

We'll have to be much smarter and much more aligned at the back. Need to defend as a team and not as individuals.

How'd that work out? Should have lumped on Liverpool after all.
