Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Think United got one of the best draws they could hope for.

Celtic on the other hand must have gotten the worst.

Tough looking draw for Celtic. I haven't watched them play in a long time but by all accounts they made tough work of the last qualifying fixture.

Surely given that the league is back in full swing, they'll have clicked into gear somewhat.

    Superb atmosphere.

Celtic 2-0 after nine minutes. I was hoping to see some sort of contest. Oh well.

Werent the English in danger of losing a CL spot?

It is not that i am a conspiracy theorist, is just that i trust Blatter jr. as far as i can throw him.

But if they dropped down into the Europa League they could have a deeper run into the tournament and EL and CL give the same coefficient points.

True, but dont count CL point heavier than EL points?

Valencia going for it against Monaco. Subasic already making a great save.

And as I type, Negredo has just brilliantly lobbed him to cancel out Monaco's away goal.

And they've done it, brilliant for Valencia. Glad they're in it again.

Also the first time there will 5 teams from a single country in the group stages!
Barca, Real, Athletico, Sevilla and Valencia

Celtic & Monaco knocked out of Champions League tonight. Pots 1-4 for Group stage draw on Thursday (as it stands):

Reminds me of the day UEFA confirmed that the Europa League winners would get an automatic champions league spot and on Sky Sports News Brian Swanson excitedly announced that from 2015 there could be 5 English Teams in the Group Stages (as if it was almost certain to happen) instead of saying there could be 5 teams from one country in the group stages.

Can't see Lazio hold on here, it's been all Leverkusen. Hit the woodwork twice already.

That goal was coming, Lazio should have had a penalty but still are just playing like losers

Their defence picked up for the last 10 mins or so, but then to give away a goal like that...

2-0 for Leverkusen, amateur defending again from Lazio.

That 2nd might be it. They have to start playing now. Such a disappointing performance by them. :(

And a 2nd yellow for Mauricio, all over for Lazio I'd say.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

3-0 such a terrible performance by Lazio. Leverkusen aren't even a great side no matter how much gushing Hargreaves is doing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

Shocker, was hoping Lazio would get in.

Nice to see new teams like Astana make it through. CSKA and BATE also through with Utd and Leverkusen

Fc astna will be an absolute stinker of an away in the glorious nation of Kazakhstan. Cska Moscow got through again I see, again another bothersome away trip for a few reasons.

I'd love Chelsea to get Madrid.

    Jose vs Rafa.

It would be worth it for the press conferences alone.

I fail to understand how the European Champion's from the season before last are in pot 2, just seems ridiculous. And it's not like they just disappeared off the face of the earth last season, they were semi-finalists again.

Only champions in pot 1 now

Very poor by Lazio. Would liked to have seen them in. Would have given some of the top teams a real rattle. Terribly slow starters each season.

Biglia missing hurt them but not as much as Candreva & Felipe Anderson doing absolutely nothing of note. They never invested in the summer either as they need someone better than Mauricio ar centre back & even though he played well they were trying to ship out Keita this summer before he scored in the first leg.
They deserved to go out & it's a kick in the balls again to Serie A's coefficient rankings

Am I right in saying that Sevilla have no country protection today?

Don't think so they are in as a Spanish representative, so can't draw another Spanish team in the group.

Only teams being kept apart are teams from Russia and Ukraine

I could have sworn when I first read about the Europa League winners being given an extra CL spot if not in the top 4 of their country (and having 4 qualifiers), that they wouldn't get the country protection. Can't find a thing about it now though!

    from uefa.com
"No team can play a club from their own association and Russian and Ukrainian teams cannot meet."

    BAR CHE BAY PSV
    ARS R.M. M.C. M.U.
    GAL D.K. ROM SEV
    MóN GEN MAL AST
that's the draw for the English sides sorted

It may have been someone thinking along the lines of when Liverpool got in after 2005 when they were a European team and could draw an English team in the groups which happened when they got Chelsea

Is there anywhere online you can watch the draw?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

A Kazakh team is in the Group Stages of the Champions League. Cue lazy Borat references from the tabloids if an English team draws them. If a team from there can get in, is it realistic for an Irish team I wonder?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Also, what if a team from RUS and a team from UKR meet in knockouts? Neutral ground?
