160/7 in the end. Nice fight back from the bowlers. Zazai with 74 from 33 balls doing the damage

It's an 18 over game btw due to rain delay before it began

Stirling didn't get all of that, but that was some catch on the boundary.

Just caught it on cricinfo. Seems like our first choice bowlers couldn’t keep the score down in the early overs. Did yer man bat well or were we just far too loose?

live streaming on https://www.cricketgateway.com/ - free to air, and good quality.

Kyle McCallan and Niall O'Brien were two of the commentators - I knew Kyle was good at it, but was very impressed with Niall.

    Yep.

For those who don't know the score:-

    Them: 160/8

    Us: 79/10

Yep, we sure seem to be on a downer. Not so many years ago, I think we were expecting to win matches against the Afghans. They seem to have gone up in standard and we've gone down. Is that a fair assessment?

T20 is by far our weakest format.

But we don't seem to be doing anything to change it. That's the worrying part.

You can see cricket slipping out of the RTE sports bulletins now. Always a bit iffy, but they were covering Irish international matches well enough for a while. Think this match got a brief mention yesterday but didn't hear the result covered this morning. Seem to be more interested in Seamus Power being no 125 on the US golf circuit and 'keeping his card' and rows in the GAA in Mayo. But there you are: easy come, easy go :)

Its actually a pretty amazing achievement by Power to have held onto his card for the 3rd consecutive year. A lot more high profile names didnt do so. Definitely worth a mention.

Third game rained off - probably saved Ireland from a humiliating whitewash.

(And Sussex managed to get through to T20 finals day without Rashid Khan!)

First ODI today. Afghanistan batting and have recovered from 25/2 to be on 66/2 after 16 overs.

    Good live feed here,
    https://www.cricketgateway.com/afghanistan-tour-of-ireland-2018/livestreaming.html

After a decent start the Irish attack has stagnated somewhat, Afghan's comfortably knocking away singles and opening up with the more frequent boundaries now 118-3 through 28 overs.

Wicket. 156/4 35.2. good to break the partnership

205-8 through 46, Ireland have contained them very well since 197-4. Would have expected more from the Afghan's in the last powerplay after their patient build up. This total could be a fair bit lower without some sloppy work in the field throughout this innings.

227/9 in the end. Useful last wicket stand. Not a gimmie.

Any idea what a par score would be on that pitch today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

9 off first over with a couple of boundaries for Stirling. Living on the edge though as usual

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭BarryD2

Time for Porterfield to put in a steady innings.

Nicely poised in a way but the old run rate is creeping up.... have we someone who can put together a decent score???

87/3 after 25. Balbirnie on 30*. The rest have all made double figures at least but only Balbirne gotten past 20 so far.

The main thing for us here is keeping wickets and not to collapse as much as the Afghans did but thats easier said than done with 8 more overs still to come from R.Khan, fairplay to Balbirnie aswell he is awkward to watch at times but often times he has put in a decent score when nobody else has stepped up. 89/3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Singh out 93/4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    109/4 after 30. Run a ball needed

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭BarryD2

Good man Balbirnie, nice to see a decent innings. Could be close this game yet, hopefully anyway :)

Balbirnie gone. 133/5 and 15 overs left. Need KOB and Wilson to put together a good partnership now
