And of course I've had to buy a hat due to the fact the sun is shining....

I suppose what's needed is a bit of wind? Yesterday afternoon was right breezy but seemed to die off overnight.

Well our Afg experience did show that we can bat down the order, in fact we relied on it there! So there's hope yet :)

Is there anywhere to listen to this? I can't get TMS, unfortunately. (Content not available in your area)

Dunno. RTE are not exactly in tune with idea of covering cricket. Wouldn't cost them much at all to run a basic radio commentary, but kinda out their GAA head space.

    So what's the prognosis?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭VillaMad

First wicket for Little. Super catch by Dockrell.

Ireland needed that as England were starting to cruise.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Beauty by Murtagh. Root out LBW. 41-2.

Eoin Morgan comes to the crease.

Sharp bouncer by Little and Morgan nicks it behind!! Brilliant ball! 46-3.

Delighted for Morgan. And it makes things interesting

A quiet sense of poetic justice about that wicket :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,179 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

I understood his decision to leave 10 years ago, cricket Ireland was in a very different place but... there's something very satisfying about Morgan making a duck representing England in Dublin.

A worldie of a catch by Gary Wilson! Josh Little has a third.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Interesting now

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Denly hits it straight to Kevin O'Brien! 66-5. What a comeback by Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    67/5 now

We've been here before though, how many games have we been one big low-order-partnership away from a win? Big test for Porterfield now to see it out and not get too conservative like so many other games

    86/5 after 20

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭VillaMad

94-5 England. Gone a bit quiet so Murtagh comes back to bowl.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    4 for Little

Can someone here with better knowledge than me tell me why Rankin was brought back into attack when there was no need to, the others had plenty of overs left.

    Foakes doing some damage

Porterfield with serious questions to answer imo.

Well he scored 17 today - that's an improvement on the 42 total scored in 4 ODIs against Afg recently, average 10.5 - with tailenders outscoring him easily out there :)

I know nothing of the internal politics of Cricket Ireland but I guess there's some reason why he's still opening bat and captain.

    Windies 31/0 after 8

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭BarryD2

Very expensive first over from Barry McCarthy! Some good tight bowling before that had them tied down a bit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭BarryD2

We'd want a wicket soon enough, otherwise the Windies heading for a big score followed by big pressure. Maybe winning the toss and putting them in wasn't the best idea, justified if you can get early inroads and/or keep the scoring down.

    Getting hammered here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

142/0 after 25. Have to fancy 350+ possibly even 400 from here

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭BarryD2

Ah lads, this is a real hammering, an embarrassment. Had to go out for a while to return and see two centuries for their openers. Can Porters not come up with a single strategy to get a wicket after putting them in? Could be looking at a huge loss here.

Indeed we could. Although the Clontarf track is almost always a batsman friendly one, so maybe we'll be able to get a decent score.

That said, the last 10 overs of the WIndies innings may well be carnage. :(

EDIT: I'm a bit surprised that the two openers haven't been asked to retire to give some of the others a chance to bat.

In that case, if we can't keep the score down, why not bat first. As it is, we're going to be under scoring pressure from the first ball and we all know where that leads..
